Default zero Oil pressure and oil light on

On my way home I noticed out of nowhere the oil light comes on and I'm getting zero oil pressure on my gauge. dipsticked check theres oil. limped it home about 3 miles, didn't hear any knocking. I checked all my fuses and relays all good. I figured it was the oil pressure sensor so I went under and swapped that out. still reading zero oil pressure. Any ideas? I appreciate your help in advance.

Install mechanical sensor, start car, see what happens. If no pressure, replace oil pump.

Sensor failure, most likely. EDIT: oops, didn't see you had swapped it out. Wiring harness, gauge, or true oil pump failure in that case...

Agreed. If you really had zero pressure 3 miles most likely did some damage to your motor.

Should I get one of these:

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ester/_/N-25ml

and just plug it in where the electrical sensor is?

IMO

yes, and if it reads 0, turn the motor off asap. sounds like an oil pump since you swapped sensors and it still read 0.

if new gauge reads good oil pressure, its a wiring problem or you had 2 bad sensors
if new gauge reads no oil pressure, likely an oil pump, which sucks to replace.

I will test this out with oil pressure gauge tomorrow. When I swapped out the sensor I did notice a lot of oil around the wiring harness could this have possibly shorted it ??
