Default Gas tank hatch looks warped

Hey there,

My 350Z is almost brand new with 15,000 miles. But the gas tank hatch is warped so much that I can fit a pen underneath one side of it while it's latched closed. (To put it into perspective).

Should I bring it to a repair shop, try to fix it myself, or look for a new hatch?

Any ideas from the experts? THANKS!

Stick your hand up under the fender to see if it is rolled or not. I rolled my fenders at about 20k miles. It causes the gas cap to fit funny.... plus it's a lil off from the factory... Pix or gtfo

jk

EDIT: If your fenders ARE rolled, they could have been "pulled" a minor/major amount in the process...

I'll check that out in a couple hours when I'm off work. What do you mean "rolled"? And how would it get rolled? I don't think it was in any sort of accident or anything.

If it is "rolled", what's the best approach to resolve it? THANKS!

Rolled means the "lip" of hte metal that the fender/quarterpanel that is above the rear wheel has been essentially folded or rolled over, usually to fit bigger wheels/tires, or for lower offset wheels.

Best solution to rolled rear fenders..................................none. or get new rear fenders?

If you cant tell by looking/feeling, compare it to the front. The fronts are rolled from Nissan, but not the rears. If you can post pix, many of us could tell you if they are rolled or if your gas door is just wonky.

Sweet! I definitely don't think they're rolled, but I'll post some pictures soon. Thanks!

Enkei, the gas door is easy to adjust, although it can be hard to get absolutely perfect. Open the door and note the small tabs that bear against the rubber inserts. These can be slightly bent to help align the door to the adjacent sheet metal. Also the two screws on the door hinge have a tiny bit of adjustment and the hinge mounts can also be tweaked. Since your car is a 2003 there is a stronger hinge leaf spring available to make the door pop open smartly (My car used to take a couple of pushes of the gas door button before it would open.
I’m too lazy to make a trip to the dealer so I just lubricate the spring track with plastic lube every 3 or 4 years and it works perfectly)

From the first picture it appears that the rear fender isn’t rolled/molested.

Wow, +1 to Jennifer 2.... I hadnt even got to the adjustment portion yet! Just goes to show my350z-ers arent a bunch of *******, we actually DO like helping.

I agree, your fenders don't look rolled..... You MIGHT want to do something about that MASSIVE "air brake" you have installed where your gas door is....
