Default Troubleshooting Power Windows

Alright. I bought a used 2003 350z last night. Has issues with the Power Windows. Has a few other issues, too, but nothing I can't figure out. The windows, on the other hand... I have no clue. Here are my problems:

Driver side panel: Power Locks Work. Window button has zero functionality on either side.

Passenger side panel: Nothing works.

The guy I bought it from seemed to be under the impression that the motors were fine, but I plan to take apart the door panel tomorrow and test that theory.

I just wanted some guidance on other troubleshooting ideas I could approach. What else is there that could be malfunctioning aside from the motors? How do I test those other things?

I've read several posts on here about cleaning the motors. I'll post tomorrow if that fixes my issue.

As a note, these forums are amazing. Already fixed the rear hatch thanks to one of the threads and a couple pennies.

EDIT: I found the service manual and it has a list of troubleshooting steps to look at. Sorry I jumped the gun on my post. Will update when I figure out what the issue is.

I would see if you can reset the window motors. I would google this and see what you need to do.

If that fails it could very well be the motors

If you get a an Uprev / Cipher it has tests for everything you could run that first then you can see if it's switches or motors before you rip apart the doors. 200 bux and you get everything looked at http://uprev.com/secure/cipher.html or pay another 100 and get a tune...

I am pretty sure it is the window switch. The driver side window switch, when not functional, will prevent the passenger side from working as well. That or the window switch disable switch is broken.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be corrosion in the plug between the door harness and body harness. I just took it apart, sprayed it with electrical cleaner and reassembled with dielectric grease and the issue was resolved.

Also I would check the fuses because it's really easy to do

Yeah, chances are slim that BOTH window motors died at the same time. Gotta be something else. Plus, when window motors die, you can usually get them to partially work by punching the door a couple times.

I checked the fuses. The 40A fusible link is solid. The two 10A fuses in the fuse block are good. Those were the only ones the service manual said could affect the BCM (and thus the power windows)

I got excited when I saw the post about the plug in the door harness, because that's super easy. Sprayed it out but alas, no quick fix there.

I'm not very good with a multimeter, but I was trying to check the continuity between the BCM connector and ground (Preliminary Check - Step 3 - Service Manual GW-28). Instead of a long, continuous beep I got one short blip. I think I may have a short somewhere, but I have no idea how to investigate that. Probably going to give in and take it to a mechanic.

Hey, I'm curious on your resolution.

I just purchased a 2004 on Nov 11th, my passenger window quit working the other day. Is there a window disable somewhere ? My driver's side works fine, it's my passenger window that stopped. I don't feel comfortable with taking the door apart quite yet, I was hoping for all the troubleshooting steps to test prior to disassembly......

It was working fine until I was trying to get it to stop 1/2 way down using teh driver's side switch. I finally got it to respond and stop 1/2 way down. At that point, it was not going back up or was it going to go the rest of the way down. I opened the door on that side and closed it, then the switch (driver's side) allowed me to bring the window back up.

Since then, it will not work from either switch. I think it odd a motor would stop that quickly, it was functioning fine with no external noises.

Cleaned the old motor with Electric Cleaner. It worked for a couple months. I eventually just replaced the window motor.
