Default rebuild or replace motor

hey guys..just looking for ideas, havent made up my mine yet.

i have an 03 base with 80k and she burns oil..its not a big deal but i would really like to fix this and i also would like to supercharge it or turbo.leaning towards the supercharger..
anyways...do i just rebuild my motor or shop around for a performance motor?
now,if i buy a performance motor then i cant supercharge it till next yr,because of funds..
if i just rebuild my motor then theres a possibitly i could juice her up this summer..
what would you guys do???

I would worry more about fixing or replacement versus adding a turbo or supercharger.

If you think 400whp will be plenty of power than just get it rebuilt locally and add a bolt on supercharger kit. I had the procharger kit on my car for 4 years and it was great, alot of people use the vortex kit as well. Either kit will be fine. If you think you want more than 400whp than you gotta get a built block.

350-425whp = $7k
425-600whp = $15k
600-800whp = $25k
800-1200whp =$40k

I'd leave it alone and just check your oil every week etc. That's semi low mileage for the z so I'd get the best out of that motor and save the money.

Let's expand on this answer a bit. If your VQ35DE is burning oil, it's most likely a sign of worn rings and a tired bottom end. If you're seriously considering either s/c or turbo, you're only going to stress an already weak link in your Z.

At least the best answers are clear: either spend the money to rebuild the engine and particularly the shortblock, for a forced induction application or not. If you don't have the money to do it right, simply don't do it. I've seen several Z owners spend significant money on FI and either blow it up or suffer terminal engine problems within a year or two.

So save your money until you can do it right and keep adding oil for now...

The vq engine is very reliable, sometimes there are cases where they burn oil and as stated it's the rings generally. It's not like the subarus that have spun bearings which is why a lot of people need to rebuild

I would do what was stated and keep an eye on the oil level.

What are the options for a stock engine rebuild? mine is burning pretty well prob about 1.5 per 2000 miles.
