I have a 2006 Grand Touring Z with about 58k on it. I've been driving back and forth from San Diego to Vegas, about every week. seems it may be burning oil as pressure has dropped from 60 psi to 30-40 psi at same RPM, speed, etc. I switched to synthetic about 12K miles ago...runs much better...

Any thoughts? Is this normal?

Yes oil pressure...after the oil change on the highway it runs right at 60 psi, but slowly after miles, say 6,000 miles it is running at 30-40 psi at same speed, rpm, etc

 

That is odd. If it's the same rpm it should be the same. My psi never goes that low when driving always around 60.

Since you have the rev up engine it could be consuming some oil. I would check the oil level and viscosity. Look also to see if it has an odd color

 

Do you not check your oil level occasionally?

 

I have a 2006 350Z Grand Touring. I bought it used 2 years ago with 16K on it. It ran std oil evey 3k miles, until 12K miles ago, when I switched to synthetic.

Made a huge difference in pep. It seems it is using about .5 to 1 quart every 6K mile or so...is this standard for the Q V6. My Maxima (2001) went 260K (before it got crashed by my son) and never used a drop.

Just wondering, since after ^K mile pressure drops from an even 60 psi while at cruise to 30-40 psi...THANKS!

Only way to determine actual oil use is to check the dipstick. How much oil loss is it showing each week?

Thanks for the prompt response...I didn't know about the "rev up" configuration in the Grand Touring...I presume that's a differently tuned Q V6?

That isn't excessive oil burning. Is your car manual or automatic?
