Default Worn OEM LSD??

I just bought a 03 350Z Grand Touring with 160K miles with new refurbished engine and tranny. Car runs good but I believe the LSD is not operating as it should. I have read that it is a viscous coupling style so there is "nothing to wear out"? If I do a donut in first gear the diff will open up within a second or two then I feel it and hear one tire roasting and the slide is interrupted. If I do this in second gear with light throttle I can keep it going for a few seconds but it eventually opens up with any more then 50% throttle.

My last car a C6 vette with OEM clutch type LSD would never break into a one wheel buzzkill. Does the Z just have a weak LSD or is mine just worn out somehow? What is the life expectancy of the OEM diff and how exactly does it wear out?

Thanks!!
Eric

Life expectancy, not long. It also depends on how it is used, a new VLSD can be trash is just 2-3 roadcourse sessions.

Bringing this old one back from the dead. Does anyone know what part to order for the stock Viscous unit? I'm pretty sure mine is toast.

Ouch, $1200. I was looking at a break down and it looked like there was a viscous coupler you can buy that is around $530. I was hoping it was that.

Yeah, I'm running in CS class for SCCA Solo. I can only do stock

I fully understand the benefit of a good diff. Heck in my SM car I have a S15 helical currently in it and a OS Giken ready to go in.

CS has some really stiff competition in my region. We had 12 in class last Sunday with some rumblings of more next year. I like to be pushed to get better. Sometimes CS raw times STU around here. I also told myself I'd keep it street for a year to work on my driving. I tend to tinker a lot if allowed to.
