Default Airbag light - occupant sensor unit failure

My airbag light is blinking code 5. Did a scan and it is coming up as code b1018-00 which is the occupant sensor unit fail. Tried resetting it and it will not reset. From what I am reading a whole bottom seat cushion would have to be replaced and from the prices I am seeing is +3,000 and up. Just crazy. Not sure yet if my fidelity warranty service will cover it. I have to check on it this week. Has anyone ran into this problem? I see they have a occupant emulator to plug in as a last resort.

This is a 2009 350z with 23,688 miles. I did disconnect and reconnect the plugs under the seat. Tried resetting or turning off the light by the key and it did work in the past but not now.

This isn't a common technical issue with the Z33. I suggest checking with your aftermarket warranty to see if they'll pay for a Nissan dealer to diagnose and repair the fault. After all, you paid for it and let's hope that warranty is worth it.

I had the same problem. I have been running this fix for 50k miles. If I have someone small in the front that I want the air bag off for, I just unplug the emulator and the passenger airbag turns off.

I had seen that option. Hoping the warranty will pay to fix it. I have an appointment with the service department next Tuesday the 12th. Then we will see what happens.

Well just found out the warranty is not going to cover it. Guess I just do the airbag 360 emulator for now. Hate to shell out $2000 for something that this will fix for $89

Taking the bulb out fixes it also.

no that will not work at all. The passenger air bag will not deploy if needed and when I get an inspection, they look at the light when you turn it on to make sure it does it’s air bag system check.

Taking out the airbag light is also a violation of federal safety rules, and will become a major problem if there was ever an accident with a passenger injury.

Ive been in a bad accident in my first Z. If I had a passenger in that situation and no passenger airbag they would probably be dead.

No thanks.

Well…I was waiting for the airbag360 part to come in. Decided to drive the car on a little trip over the last couple days. I get back home and the part is in. I thought I would try resetting it once more before putting part in and this time it resets. What the heck. So I put the part away for another day.

This morning the light came back on. Could not reset it again so I installed the airbag360 emulator and it reset and seems to be working as expected.

You can unplug the seatbelt sensor plug. (backside of the buckle) to turn that light off.

Thanks. That is what I ended up doing.

Funny that I can run the car a while and the airbag will reset with the factory sensor but then the next day, the airbag light will come back on. I have wondered if because of the battery age it is dropping enough voltage and causing it to come on. Then as I drive it, it charges enough to allow it to reset. Then overnight it drops a little and does it all over. That is when I first saw the error when my battery was weak after setting all winter. Maybe I’ll test that theory out and check the voltages and how much voltage drop it is the next morning.

How old is your battery? Many lead-acid batteries become defective at around four to five years, although some are even less.

I purchased the car June 2017. It had 11,000 miles. I believe the dealer had installed a new battery but not sure. The battery is not marked to determine the age. The car sets unused from Nov-April. June this year will be 5 years and it has 24000 miles now. Last year after winter storage the battery was weak starting it and the light came on the first time. How ever after running it some, the light reset and stayed off until this year after storage. Maybe I should try a new battery.
