No 5th or 6th while cruising
Hey guys im new to the forums I’ve tried looking all over the place for an answer but cant seem to find one i own a base 2007 350Z has around 124k on it and randomly 5th and 6th are gone its like i have two extra neutrals now while driving but when your completely stopped you can actually engage 5th and 6th without any problem its only when your driving that 5th and 6th seem to disappear i took it to a shop and they told me the trans is blown but they didn’t even look at the car and i have a feeling its not blown i dont know if anyone has any tips or advice they can give me before i buy a new trans and spend like $2500.
Sounds like its trashed to me. Nobody on the internet will be able to diagnose a car behind a keyboard
How long have you had the car, how many miles when you bought it, did you change the trans fluid after you bought it....in fact did you do any maintenance after you bought it?

Another couple things to rule out internal damage... you say you can engage 5/6 stopped. Are they truly engaged? Put in 5th, let the clutch out generous (not floored) amount of throttle to ascertain if the gear is actually engaged. If the car moves, it's engaged, obviously.
If it is engaging, you might have an issue with shifter alignment under load which could be it just needs the alignment gate adjusted or possibly the trans mount is broken/loose allowing the trans/engine to torque over and not allowing the shifter to work properly because its binding when the trans moves.
Outside chance... but check these items before ordering a new trans.
If you do have to order a transmission, make sure you order the one for the HR engine, a JK41 trans:. And as Trav mentions, if you do have to swap (and assuming the trans doesn't come with it), install the ZSpeed HD CSC, not the OE unit.
