Folks, the RE040s are a loud tire even when they don’t feather (Not saying you don't have feathering). Check the reviews at tirerack.com. Owners of other types of cars are complaining also.

I had feathering at 7k miles and at 15k miles I replaced the RE-040s with Eagle F1 GS-D3s. These tires are quite and wear great. I also installed the Hotchkis springs and sways. 8k miles later, no problems. I have an '03.

Also, if you really want to nail the alignment, find a very reputable shop. The Nissan dealers suck.

I had my 2004 model replaced at 11,000 miles, It started at 8,000 and I dealed with the noise untill I couldnt stand it anymore! Nissan replaced the the tires free and did an alignment, they also made the car pull to the right after the very first alignment, I have paid for the other 3 alignment to try to fix there fuc up, to no avail.

My car loses oil after it is driven hard, it loses so much the oil light comes on, I have taken it to the dealership reporting this 2x, they charged me both times to replace the oil, they put in the wrong oil both times, and wrote on the ticket both times "customer request oil change" I never once requested anything other then to answer why my engine keep losing oil... but in fact I was charged both time for a oil change that I never requested.

Now at 26,000 Miles I have the same alignment issue and the feathering of the tires are so bad, I am calling today for new tires and alignment at another dealership..
Maybe I will have luck, the next city or 2 up in this state.

My Warranty states that the entire car is covered for the duration of payments on the car, also hail damage is included.

I also have all 4 disk brakes that wobble.. from heat etc... The stock brakes are not at all satisfactory for the speed of the car, I took it in and they laughed at me, said the brakes are a wear item and have nothing to do with the warranty, fine.

My Air bag light keeps comming on now... blink blink, every time I drive the car, and my car isnt even a daily driver, I drive my other suv to work etc..

There must be a lemon law for this car, I love to drive it, and I love the looks, but it has been the worst experence buying a brand new car I have ever gone through.

who in there right mind would buy a new car, and have to go spend money on new front end because the one that came on the car is broken?

that just does not add up to me, I guess if you guys have the xyz.000 to spent on front end parts feel free to do so, I must be in the wrong business.

damn that freaking sucks! There's gotta be something you can do. Keep complaining to them, bring it to another dealer, maybe they'll buy your car back.

~$400 Hotchkis setup
~$895 Goodyear F1s w/ alignment

Cheapest way out. Not saying it will work for everyone but seems to be working right now. And I didnt upgrade to eliminate feathering. I simply wanted better handling. And you'll need tires sooner or later anyhow so buy different ones. I could have gone back for the free tire replacement on the fronts but I didn't want to deal with the dealership jackasses and I didnt want the crappy RE040s back on my car.

WHY SHOULD WE HAVE TO FIX A MANUFACTURER DEFECT?

Every 03 and 04 that I know of (and maybe even my new 05) has an allignement issue. That by definition is a design flaw not a wear problem...

Don't let Nissan push you around. Call an attorney and get after them if they don't comply. I am not advocating SUE SUE SUE but sometimes the other side (NNA in this case) leaves us no choise. I don't want to put out bad press but I did go through a lemon case with NNA and they replaced my car. I started with Arbitration and they said no. So I hired an attorney and NNA agreed with the same exact evidence I presented and they have to pay for my attorney if I win (and I did). If you want some of the details PM me. I don't feel it's appropriate to do this publically.

NNA is just not standing behind their cars.

You are the first person I've come across claiming feathering problems on the '05. What is it doing?

Just found out I had this problem too. I'm not a car enthusiast and don't know anything about them... I saw the pleasure my Dad got from his '83 280z and '86 300 and as a kid set the goal that my first new car would be a Z... which it was. An '04 350 Touring Roadster. I've had it since Aug '03 (manuf. in July '03) I'm on my second transmission and third top. NNA refuses to reimburse me the $650 for the tires and alignment, saying the problem doesn't affect the '04 models. I saw an earlier post that mentioned that the manufacturing cut off date for the April '04 TSB was around September '03. Anyone know where I can verify this or find out more? I'm thinking about going the LL route... there's no way I'll ever be able to sell this car for fair market value.

I don't think spending 1300 is going to fix the problem, mine is so bad the entire car vibrate, freeway and under braking... after about 8K miles.

Buy soft tires all year long, it is still wearing your new 200.00 tires wrong

but its what you want.. I want it fixed, if they cant fix it then they need to recall it. I didnt spend 33K to replace front tires every 8K miles.

To me thats like if the clutch went out every 8K miles, ya its a wear item, but it should last longer, who could afford replacing engine parts 2-3x a year..

If I wanted to work on the car 3x a year I would have purchased a Porsche.

You guys have got me worried. I pick up my 350Z on saturday. it is an 04 and has 5 mnths left on manufacturers warranty with 20k mileage.
I really want to get everything that can go wrong sorted before the warranty runs out - what are the tell-tail signs of 'right-pulling' or feathering?
i test drove a similar 04 model, and that seemed straight - but the dealership would be, wouldnt it.

Mine drove straigt off the lot too, it was when my tires feathered and Nissan replaced them and aligned my z, thats when all the trouble started, it has NEVER drove straight since, I have had it in for re-alignment more them I want to admit.

even if the warranty is out, you still have time on the alignment warranty. i have an '03 i purchased 2 weeks ago and the alignment warranty is still applicable till the end of this month. it goes by the in-service date of your car. You need to call Nissan Consumer Affairs and they will tell you the in-service date of your car and also, if you are the second owner, put you on the mailing list for future TSB work or recall info. i am going tommorrow to get the alignment done on my Z. From what i was told by the dealership, the alignment work was already done @ 20,000 miles in April 2004. Keep all posted.

mike.

I purchased a NNA extended warrantee on my 03 (and NNA repurchased it for me on my 05) for $1400 7yr 100,000 miles. It was a NNA one not a dealership one. That is the best thing you can do. Keep diligent records of all the issues (even if they tell you it's nothing make them write that down). FYI if it had been a dealership warrantee NNA would not have covered it.

(metalmickey) Why is your 04 almost out of warrantee? 3yr 30K miles (or is it 36K)

(pulpZ2) I am not having the problem yet. I was just saying that I did on my 03 and I have heard of 04 people having it and I "expect" my 05 will too. There is still no adjustment for the problem with the stock parts (which is why you changed them). I completely agree that you "can" fix the problem but I think we all bought a new car with "no" problems. If I wanted a tinker car I would have bought used and save $10 and dumped that into parts and had as good (or better) a car. I bought new so NNA can deal with the problems NOT ME!!!

Side not to the LL subject; when I asked my NNA arbitrator a couple questions about the omitted info (like warrantee) on my new contract and how was I supposed to prove, if this car also turns out to be a lemon, I purchased it if it wasn't on the new contract. He had a long pause and then said "You know I have never had the same person have 2 Lemons” I laughed and said this was my second one already (one GM and one NNA). So make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing. Even down to the smallest insignificant detail like proof of new

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I had my tires replaced on my 03 at 15xxx and again at 30xxx by the dealership, and they made me pay for the second alignment this last time at 30xxx. But now that they performed this last alignment, I noticed that my mpg has gone down from an avg of 23mpg to 19-20mpg.
