Default New 2007 350Z Roadster - Touring

My wife and I recently purchased a 350Z Roadster Touring model. This is our first Z and I was very impressed with the car. I'm a long time Porsche driver. I recently owned a 2002 Boxster and was looking at Cayman S and Boxster S prior to driving the 350Z. We test drove the new Audi TT prior to our 350Z purchase as well.

I really think Nizzan has finally made the 350Z a competitor in 2007 with some of the upper end roadsters I have driven with its higher reving motor and few nice upgrades since I last looked at the car a few years ago. I wasnt nearly as impressed with the car as I am now.

While the 350Z isnt a Porsche it certainly offers things that the Boxster doesnt. Low price entry. I love the torque of the big 3.5 liter motor. 350Z handling to me was really suprising. While its not nearly as nimble as the Porsche it definitely is a nicely balanced platform and feels every bit as solid as my german sports cars.

Thing that sold me on the 350Z is that I fit in the car better than others. I'm 6'4" tall and 275lbs. I have plenty of head room compared to other roadsters I have driven.

Grant

Are you saying the Z does not handle quite as well as your Boxster, or are you referring to other models of Porsche?

Oh, welcome

Boxster and Cayman specifically however 997 is a sweet handling car as well. Couldnt expect an ecomomy Japanese GT to handle as well. But the 350Z is a great car for $15K less than the new 2007 Boxster I was looking at.

350Z is just a bit portly in comparison to most Porsches I have owned hence my screen name "Shamu".

Yes I can see your point. My Bentley is so much more comfortable than the puny 350Z.

In fact the first time I drove a 350Z I said to myself "This really isn't as comfortable as my Bentley, but for a Japanese Econobox, its ok for my stupid wife to drag her fat *** around town"

Exactly I wouldnt want her curbing the BBS wheels of our nice German car and its nice to have a car that she can throw planting mix in the trunk and not worry. You get it.

My biggest question is what kind of tire chains do you guys use on 350Z or does its all wheel stability control with snow tires handle snow instead? Also anyone know of a good ski rack for the 350Z Cabriolet? My wife and I are planning to take the car to the mountians during ski season this winter. We need to find rubber mats too so we keep mud and snow off carpets and trunk to a minimum. Also is there a good spray for leather to help protect it from snow/water?

We are both happy to be a part of the Z world now as we have never owned a Datsun or a Nizzan. Looking forward to modding this car with some cool things as well. We would like to install a nice stereo as the Bose that came with our car is sort of tinny sounding.

I'll make sure I take some pictures soon when we are up at Tahoe. I think snow capped mountains in background will make this car look alright.

Hey Congratz on your new Toy. Don't mind some of the kids here on this board.

I would not do chines but a nice winter tires wheels set from ww.tirerack.com

That would be your best option, also far as good spray for leather to help protect it from snow water, try local auto stores they have all kinds of stuff for that.

I just picked up, 08 Z33 6MT Black on black with Nav and Bluetooth.

Very Very fun car to drive.

Z... Skiing... NO man,, JUST NO.
Get an Xterra.. Land Rover... something..
Just NOT the Z in the mountain-snow.

Plus... a ski rack on the Z? hmm..

I bet this one of those joke profiles... just someone starting a good laugh. :-)

Congrats on your new Z. It may not feel like a porsche, but it's a nice vehicle. At the end of the day, you can keep the extra $15k in your bank or invest it in modification. I hope some of the posts you have on this thread was a joke. Anyway, ignore some of the stupid remarks. Hope you will enjoy your Z for years to come.

I'm just having fun with some of those first posts. I have driven lots of sports cars over the past 30 years. I have owned 280Z, 240SX, Sentra SeR , lots of old air cooled Porsches, I did own a Boxster for 4 years - very nice car, and I traded a 2006 MX5 GT in on the 350Z. My other cars are a Mazdaspeed 6 GT (a sedan that gives the 350Z a run for its money), a Porsche 914-6 track car and a F150 pickup truck.

350Z is a great car that I have always wanted to own. Of course I'd love to own a Porsche GT3 RSR, but my bank account is allergic to that car.

Dont worry I'm not taking the 350Z roadster to the snow.

...and unfortunately that extra $15K is going into mods for this car:

Glad you were only joking. There are some posters that just want to give their 2 cents without wanting to help out new Z owners. I hate to say this, but I used to spend a lot of time here, but seems like it's been infected with helpless/pointless answers.

Welcome Grant. Good to see another person here with a sense of humour, sadly lacking here sometimes. Enjoy the roadster.

Default Winter

Just put a battery tender on my Daytona Blue 2007 Roadster. It is sleeping and I wanted to make sure the battery is fresh when I need it.

Probably not the right choice to be taking a trip into some snowy mountains...
