Default OK..I admit..newbie

I got my Z as a TOTAL surprise while picking up my husband's 3rd Maxima...I previously had a Nissan 240 sx, then a toyota celica 2000...never had any time to check things out..walked back to the truck as they unloaded a black 2004 350z roadster...my husband said..why not? Car is great..hate the bose sysem...had better audio in my $10,000 pontiac. Questions...you guys are so superior to what I'm looking for...I am no audio phile..any one just get the bose and maybe switch out some speakers? I'm afraid from what I hear on this forum to ask them to do the amplifier switch-out. Can I make my tunes better? Simply? Hey..give me a break...we actually paid for this car...my husband thinks I am nuts when it comes to music...he listens to sportsradio...shouldn't the sound system sound better? I am not looking to replace the whole system ..can't afford that...what can do ,stock system from what I hear is OK...just want a normal stereo...what is the least I can do with upgrading the Bose?

Ifiniti makes a self powered subwoofer that will fit in the stock location of the current subwoofer. Adds nice bass. Check infinitis website or crutchfield.com

Unfortunately, the "least" you can do with the Bose turns out to be quite a bit. Because of its whack impedience, the speakers can't just be changed alone. At least, you will need a new amp, and some type of converter to go between the head unit and new amp. I can't help much more without the search. Many have ripped out the entire bose completely for an upgrade.

Sorry I don't have more info. I never messed with the stereo when I had my Z. Try posting/browsing in the audio forum.

Good luck.

Before doing anything with the Bose sytem make sure your car has the latest amplifier upgrade available by TSB. I would assume that it does based on the fact it was just delivered but it couldn't hurt to check. Sorry I don't have the stock numbers in front of me but dealer should know.

Upgrading to the latest amp greatly improved the Bose system in my car. Just to be sure, what model Z do you have?? Just wanted to make sure you do have the Bose system and not the stock one .

Edit: Enthusiast has stock model, Touring has Bose...

As long as you don't want something super fancy (DVD, Nav.) and all that stuff it shouldn't be all that expensive to change speakers and head unit. As with everything else a better brand will cost more, but with the sudden explosion of DVD and Nav. head units you can now pick up a rather nice Alpine CD/Radio type of thing for a reasonable price and other brands are even cheaper.
The first thing to do is find yourself a good reputable shop in your area. The shop that has done all my cars will guarantee their work for as long as you own the vehicle. Tell them your needs and they'll tell you what they can do for you and quote you on what it'll cost and after that shop around.
