Red Z in Lake!
Car plunges into Lake Ponchartrain near Franklin Avenue; no driver found

Divers with the New Orleans Police Department spent much of this morning searching for the driver of a car that was found in Lake Ponchartrain near Franklin Avenue, but found nothing.
The vehicle, a red 2003 Nissan 350Z, apparently plunged into the lake after plowing over a grassy median at Franklin Avenue, according to Louis Capo, director of non-flood assets for the New Orleans Levee District. Capo said investigators believe the car may have been travelling down the wrong side of the street -- the southbound lanes -- before plummeting into the lake.
The car is registered to a Kenner resident and has Georgia license plates, Capo said. The search in the lake has been suspended. Police are now looking for the registered owner, he said.
"The lingering question," Capo said, "is where is the driver?"
The levee district received a report of the submerged vehicle around 7:45 a.m. New Orleans police and the Coast Guard were called to the scene.
