Detroit Area Z List part 3
I may be pulling the Z out sooner than I thought. The old Sebring must have heard me talking bad about her - she's dumping trans fluid like crazy now...about a quart every 20miles. I'm going to drop her off at the shop today and hope they can patch her back together long enough for Spring to get here.
good luck, man.... hope they can keep her together a bit longer for you. i don't know if other areas are like berkley/southfield....but they're putting cold patch on the roads! yikes! it turns regular driving into a slalom course, trying to avoid the patches....

Steve, Billy is right that is a very common car, and most of those tranny's have carried over from year to year. I think the newest ones will fit as well, if anything you just have to keep your current bellhousing and it should work.
You should look at a junkyard man....
It will be cheaper to put in a new one, then get it fixed...
Also then we have a PROJECT party...

I can squeeze a few more short trips out of her - but I am not putting any more money into the old Sebring (only a few more quarts of trans fluid).
They estimated $400-$700 to fix her - and there is no telling how long she will go until she breaks down again (with similar or different problems).
The tires are about shot, brakes ready to be replaced, a lot of rust underneath including fuel line, lots of metal pieces in the oil, front bearings or balljoints are going, needs a tune-up... It's time to let her go.
1 more month of beater driving would have been optimal - but I'll take what I can get. She did good. I may hang on to her for another month in case I do need to drive in more snow - but after that she's getting donated to Purple Heart.
Thanks for the suggestions and all - but it's time to say goodbye to the Sebring..
May she rest in peace.

Yeah, I am not sure what 2nd car I am going to get yet. I guess I have Spring and summer to save up some more and decide.
Part of me wants something nice and fun like a Mini Cooper, another part just wants some fuel efficient beater like an old Focus or Vibe.. So many cars to pick from. I may want to stay around the $5k range to keep insurance low. I really don't know. I do want to test drive a Mini though.
My Z is officially out from storage!
so sweet...

Steve, my buddy Tom had a Mini Cooper S, it was alot of fun to drive, but the resale value on those is REALLY high
You are going to get one with a TON of miles on it for 5K, probably more then your current car actually. Also non S mini's are DOGS...
Another car is look into old Sentra Spec-V's...awesome car had two of them...so much fun to drive and get great fuel mileage..peppy too
Also the G is back to her old self with the good wheels, and I took her out last night, so much fun....
