Rob,
I am with Brian, somewhere that is important to the two of you is crucial.

Also for me anyway trying to catch her off gaurd is KEY. I mean I know you guys live and work together so it is hard to keep something "quiet".

What did you have in mind?
The Tigers stadium and chanpagne thing IS cheesy FYI.

God damned mother ****ing broken fence at my house swung out and left a 3-4" gash in my rear bumper. Clear through the paint gouging the plastic out. ****.

At least the oil cooler install should go smoothly tomorrow morning.

Ouch! I don't think I've ever heard you swear before.

Sorry to hear this. Is it something your insurance or landlord can cover? (Time for aftermarket kit? ) Cheer up, you'll get it fixed in time for the Jawbreaker. (You still going?)

I don't know if I'll fix it for the jawbreaker or not. I don't really have the money to spend at the moment and my deductible is $500 anyway. It seemed really visible and I'm afraid it'll just grow and grow...

I haven't seen an aftermarket rear fascia that I liked yet... They all seem a little weird to me so far. When I replace it if the costs are similar I may look a little harder though.

Ah I was already relaxed. The clear coat bubbling and leaving white rings on the hood has me over the little things. I'm still just pissed that this little pointless section of fencing did it.

Oil cooler is on and seems to be kicking ***. A run from my house (just south of 9 mile) up woodward to O'Reilly's for oil dry (and some idling to check for leaks) had me running just about 200F. Normally it would have been over 220 the way I was driving. 6qts may be just a little shy, but I'll have to check again later when it cools off. Routing those huge braided SS lines is a pain in the ***. I ended up cutting two sections of the fender wells to let them through and put split tubing around posible rub spots.

I am really rambly lately... I'm not really sure why.

Are the Z's coming out to the Telegraph cruise this weekend? If you guys are coming out, hang out in Taylor. Cops there are very lax -- they'll allow burnouts and open alcohol, as long as you're not being an idiot!!!

Just happy exclamation:

My "daily driver" 1996 BMW 328i is now actually a daily driver! The Z can now function as intended, slowly sliding into a more focused attack machine...

Backstory:
A couple of months ago, I got the BMW for a nice price. The test drives went well. The next day, it showed its cards: overheating and extensive coolant leakage. It sat. For 2 months. The first was waiting on bankroll to recover from the purchase. The next was waiting on a radiator that was backordered. Then, after a month, I was told it would be another month. That order was cancelled, and ordered from elsewhere.

Two weeks ago, all parts ordered were present and accounted for. So, I started digging into it. I learned that I'm weak. I got stymied by a fan clutch that did not want to come off. A couple days, a longer wrench, some PBlaster, lots of off-brand swearing (I don't usually do the "real" swear words), a little frustrated real swearing, bloodied knuckles, and a little ingenuity later, I finally got that monkey off. To make a long story short, after lots of steps and missteps, I got the last of the new parts on this weekend.

My work is not pretty, by any means. But, the important part is this:

I've kept a close watch on coolant temps and coolant level, and they look normal and steady!

This was the most involved self-repair job I've done yet. I'm pretty stoked about it.

To Mekatoka

I've been researching to get a new set of wheels, aiming for the fully square setup (wheels & tires all same size) and I came across your thread (quoted below) ...

When they go to put the tire on car they realized that the wheel does not clear the caliper anymore. So now, I cannot return them to Tirerack. I will have to sell them myself, I guess its time to get some iTrader points.

So, I am gonna have to buy 17x10 +18 for the event. Man this sucks!!

Also, 17x9.5 will not clear the fender unless you have alot of negative camber ~2.5.

Hopefully, this info will be helpful for others
You see, I almost made up my mind to take the "plunge" for the

275/40/17 tires on all 4 corners
on 4x 17"x9.5" +18mm offset Enkei RPF1 rims

then ran across your post.

I have an 03 touring that still has the
1. stock suspension -> I read that NISMO Zs are about 0.5~0.6 inches lower than the stock 03 Zs with their NISMO suspension, so it probably means I must have a bit more height clearance than you do
2. Non-Brembo brakes -> should be no problem clearing the calipers since stock calipers are tiny-er than the Brembo ones

My goal was also to go 17" rims for lighter weight and cheaper tires as well as do without any spacers and just get the right sizes right away. So I could relate to your thread quiet a bit

So here is my question to you.
When you test fitted your 17x9.5 RPF1 with 275/40/17 Kumho Ecsta XS tires on were you not able to physically could put the rims on?

or you could put em on, but you could see the fender rubbing right away when you put the car back down on the ground?

I mean if it comes to getting some SPL front upper arms (v3) I guess I have to, but I really wanted do without any camber adjustments for now you know?
Just kinda get them 17 inchers square setup, put em' on and be able to rotate wheels(added bonus??)...

I'd really appreciate it if you could share your wisdom with me Thanks.

Yes, I could see right away that the fender would rub.

You need to add an A-arm for brembo brakes. I believe it's different with non-brembos.

Aw darn it. So stock suspension and 275/40/17s up front are a no go then huh.

Guess I either go for smaller width tire now
or start researching on how to get negative camber adjustment up on the front wheels.

Thanks Mekatoka for your wisdom

By the way, did you install the A-Arms yourself or a shop near by?
I'm just wondering if there is a good reputable shop that can work on Zs competently around here.

I like to do the little stuff myself, but never really worked on suspension bits or anything so. Kinda scared actually haha

I am like that myself. I got alot of parts installed with the help of friends on boards from here. However, the A-arm was installed by a shop called Mufflers & More. Call the shop and ask for Kenny and tell him Deepu referred you.

Btw, I do not get any discounts for the referral I do attend track days with him though.
