the shims on the pads can be re-used. i know when i do brake jobs there is a thin piece of metal (not apart of the rotor, pads, caliper, etc) that sometimes can be slightly bent inward causing a slight metal on metal scraping noise.

can't figure out a way to describe it...someone help here.

Inwards ... towards the rotor?

Yeah Deepu it's normal. My pads squeal like hell sometimes.

And sektor most of us have a track day on Thursday so I don't think anybody is goin to putnam. A few of my co-workers are though. One drives a Black 318ti with a roll bar and motor swap. And the other has a black e36 m3 with a roll bar. Both are instructors.

Have fun though, I heard putnam is worth the drive

Holy cr@p ... never seen anybody do that Now I know what you mean by dust shield. I have that only for the rears, I believe my squeaking is coming from the fronts.

You know I've had it all last year, it wasn't like this. The reason I asked you is because you went through the same parts as I did ... new Centric Rotors, new Carbotech Pads.

Squealing without braking sounds wrong to me too...

I have a problem too... I've got a nasty bumping/rattling sound whenever I hit a bump. ;/ I hope I can figure out some way to get it in the air (without paying for it. : ) before Thursday. It sounds like bad shocks... but I expect it's the sway bar.

Lee, is it rear or front? I'm pretty sure we tightened down everything, but yeah you might want to double check the bolts on the swaybar links.

Putnam is OK at best. No elevation changes, no crazy turns, etc. Kind of a standard track. I guess what I'm trying to say is its no mid-ohio.

Front I guess. Can't see a damn thing with it on the ground.

I have no dust shield on my front rotors. The dust shields were causing excessive heat build up, which let to premature pad failure.

Yes, that's my point too. That's why I am getting it checked at the shop

If I were you, I would take it to a shop and get it checked. Just because you are going to track the vehicle you SHOULD make sure that ANY and ALL doubts be cleared before you hit the track.

My car is currently at Mufflers & More. I am getting all stuff checked that I had doubts about.

Yeah... I am really only holding off of giving Howard a call because I want to know it's something that isn't warrantied or easy to fix first... Problem with that is only having until Wednesday really.

I remember my very first track day last year @ same track @ same group @ same month that we had rain during the second half of the day. I ended up driving in the rain, it was fun and all but the car does get dirty

The hourly forecast is 70% from 8AM to 7PM. I guess I'll take the carpet out of the car and bring every towel I own...

you'll take out the carpet even when its sunny. It's advised that you take it out so that it doesn't get in your way and stick up the gas pedal while on track. You will not leave any loose items in the car, even in the compartments. Get some kind of container that has a lock.

Towels are OK as long as they don't distract you. See if you can tape them to the doors, use some kind of high absorbing material.
