Default NH Speeding ticket ($350)

Went up to the house in VT this weekend . rented a car to bring the dog up because he cant fit in the Z. had three friends coming up in seperate cars. Was moving with the flow of traffic not even looking at the Spedometer.. 3 cars ahead just start breaking quick.. i followed suit and got waved over by NH's finest... said i was clocked at 87... $350 ticket..
my other 2 friends coming up got tickets at 78 and 82 MPH..

Is there any chance i can fight this?? or should i just pay and shut up?

Doesn't sound like you have a defense. I mean you can always hire a traffic lawyer, but not sure it's worth it. Can you afford the ticket/points? Are out of state tickets even reported to Mass insurance companies? If they arn't I would just suck it up and pay the ticket.

Ouch, only downside to fighting it is that you would have to drive back to the area for your court date, but I always fight every ticket just dress nice, be polite and apologetic.. I haven't had a single one stick, always either heavily reduced fine and no citation or it gets nolle'd. Then again they weren't quite 87, isn't 90 wreckless driving, automatic arrest/court date for 25 over? Your sitting quite close I wouldn't want a pissed off judge looking over that... It's a toss up, like trodis said find out if they report back to MA, I know MA reports to CT, if not just shell out the dough.

Fight it. Tell the judge your vehicle was under repair and speedometer didnt work so you were going with traffic flow. If you have any buddies working at a shop, tell them to write a statement stating this is a fact. Also you can disable the speedometer and let everything else run and take a picture while driving to show the speedomete does not work. For 350 bucks, ill try anything to beat it.

i can relate...4 yrs ago i was driving thru VA(which is ranked the worst state to get a speeding ticket) and i got clocked at 91 in a 65...$411...to top it off, i was attempting to fight it but they gave me the wrong date to appear in court and they threatened me with a letter stating VA is issuing a warrant...til this day, i still havent paid the tix...its not transferrable so it never showed on my driving record, thank goodness...the only ones i pay are the ones that are in the states i drive to the most!!

P.S. I also gotten tix in PA, GA, NJ, and NY...im gonna get one in each of the 50 states, thats my goal b4 i die!

get a lawyer. You dont have to go back to the area, since the lawyer will be the only present person at the case. you are not required to appear. moreover, a lawyer will get them on technicality. in addition to that, a cop has two things against you when it comes to speed. First his radar(there are steps required to calibrate the damn thing before the beginning of your shift, and many of them are overlooked, a lawyer knows how to subpoena these steps described by the cop), and second his visual assessment of your speed (based on his training and experience). A good lawyer will get you out of it EASY.

And the cost of that lawyer being less than $350 especially when he has to travel back to the area... I don't see that being the case. I don't see how this would be cost effective at all unless you don't care and just want to avoid the points...
