Fun drives
What are your favorite roads to drive?
Here are a few I like to do:
Hwy 1 from Bodega Bay to Leggitt (long, 4+ hrs depending on the slow pokes and road work)
Hwy 29 from Calistoga to Clear Lake
Hwy 128 from Cloverdale northwest to Hwy 1 (south of Albion)
Hwy 128 from Winters (@I505) to Lake Berryessa
Doesn't look like a good weekend for this though.

your fave drives
i want to try one of those. if there's a nice restaurant for a pit stop along the way, then it would be ideal for a meet. someone also brought up west marin, i think that's also a nice drive.

Here's a quick fix for the West Marin route. This is actually from the Bay Area Miata Association, but they've got it all mapped out, so here it is.
These are my stomping grounds from back when I was in high school w/my 300zx, so I'm gonna set up a drive out here, whenever it looks like we've got clean weather.
Part I - Mill Valley/Sausalito to San Anselmo:
Part II - San Anselmo to Novato:

west marin
i've driven some of these roads, from san anselmo, petaluma, and novato and heading to either point reyes or stinson beach. maybe we can set up a drive that ends with a picnic at the cheese factory.

I'm game for some of those Marin roads too. They look nice and twisty. Been on Hwy 1 down to 101. Also been through Tomales, Fairfax & San Anselmo as a back route to San Rafael when I took the Jag in for service but haven't tried those other inland roads. Any weekend is fine with me. Let there be sunshine.

Here's another info site I just read about in R&T this morning. Don't know if these maps are any better then a real one. Might buy one to find out.

I live in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and have found a few cool roads down here. I'm still exploring, but so far here's what I've done:
HWY 9 - This is a two lane highway that goes from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz. It has many turnouts, and most of the local drives are very good about using them. I commute on this road (instead of HWY17) because it is so much fun.
Bear Creek Road - This is a road that starts from HWY 17 just after Los Gatos and goes up and over the mountain to Boulder Creek where it interstects HWY 9. It's very windy, and pretty bumpy, so I don't drive it much. Also, has driveways all along, so traffic can be a pain and the driveways can be dangerous.
Summit Road - This road interstects with Bear Creek at the top of the Mountian, and goes Southwest towards Soquel. You can also get to Summit straight off of HWY 17. Very nice, usually not too much traffic, nicely paved.
Skyline Blvd/HWY 35 - This runs along the tops of the mountains from Bear Creek Road all the way to South SF. I've only driven it up to HWY 84 (actually, I think it was 92, whichever is further north), and it is a pretty good run. Not very many turnouts, so traffic can be a pain.
HWY 1 - This is a nice drive, but the portion just north of Santa Cruz is pretty straight. You need to get to HWY 84 before it gets fun. You can also go down HWY 1 south past Monterey and Carmel, but then you are talking quite a long drive.
So far my favorite loop has been:
From My House south on HWY 9 to SC, then North on 1. East on 84 (or maybe 92, can't remember which), then South on Skyline. Finally back on HWY 9 south and home.
Probably about 1.5 hours and lot's of fun.

Doh
I like that also. I run it from San Mateo out 84 to hyway 1 south to Santa Cruze and back up 9 to the summit south on 35 (Skyline) to 92. Great ride for a morning run.
