Default NorCal UFO Autox Series at Marina Airport

If anyone is interested in autocrossing their Z (or whatever car) this weekend at Marina Airport, I'll be headed there once again. James (Mcarther101) joined me last weekend, and we had a blast. Congrats to James for taking 4th in our class out of 11 cars (without even trying much, as he was doing a little drifting for fun)! Complete results are here: http://www.norcalufo.org/main/attach...Feb28_2010.pdf

A pic from one of my runs last month: http://marypozzi.zenfolio.com/p78171...dbb3#h1b0cdbb3

I run in the first run group this round (it cycles each event), so will need to be there about 7am to get my tires changed, walk the track, and get my car in line for tech by 8:30. If you've never autox'd before, there is a mandatory rookie walk at 8am. There is a mandatory driver's meeting for those running in the morning session at 8:40. You can not drive without attending this meeting. If you want to run in the afternoon, you should show up by 12:30 to get registered and make the afternoon driver's meeting.

The complete schedule of the day is here: http://www.norcalufo.org/main/attach...ar-14-2010.pdf

If you're in the San Jose area and want to caravan down with me, PM me or post up here. I'll be leaving about 6am.

The next events are 4/18 and 5/2.

I'll be there instructing. Are you coming back Sunday to test your newly-found skills?

This is the 4th event of the year, and I attended the first 3. I hope to make them all, but we'll see.

Saturday is the school that you have to pay for, Sunday is the open autox. Just arrive and drive (but arrive early or risk not getting a spot).

Boo. I won't be getting my car back in time.

Just for future reference.. the last time I autox'd was back in '04.. though this was an SCCA event at Pomona. Would I still need to attend the rookie meeting for the next event I go to?

The rookie meeting - not if you don't want to. The driver's meeting - yes. Hope to see you there in April then!

If anyone is still on the fence about this event tomorrow, I highly recommend it. I was out there today with Will (Zettahertz), and the weather and course were fantastic. Tomorrow should be another great day, and the course is already set up from today's event (though we'll be running it backwards). Hope to see some of you out there.

What a fantastic day and fun course it was yesterday. I ran first thing in the morning, but then saw 2 350s and a 300ZX roll in for the afternoon session. I talked to the 300ZX guy, but not the two 350 owners. Anyone here?

hey scotts300, this thread caught my eye, and I was actually just getting ready to PM you by the recommendation of anotheraznguy. I have been chatting with him, since I am moving out to the Bay area at the beginning of May. He said I should talk with you about doing some events such as this one. This is totally the kind of event I would love to attend. I did just ask anotheraznguy about getting into drifting, as I have always wanted to learn, but never had the opportunity, but I would also love to do events like this. I am very excited about the Z community out there, as there is NOT one here haha. So let me know about other events going on after the first week of may and I would be very interested in attending.

Cool. There schedule is here: www.norcalufo.org, and I am currently planning on attending all their events. We are also going to Buttonwillow Raceway June 5-6 for a track event. You can sign up for that at www.ncracing.org if you'd like to come along.

where is Buttonwillow in relation to the bay area? and does it cost to sign up now? I will for sure be seeing you at some of those events! I look forward to it

You think i should pay the $15 membership to UFO? What does being a member mean exactly?

Buttonwillow is about 3 hours south of the bay. Yes, you would have to pay NCRC to sign up to drive (not simply to go and check things out). Being a member of UFO guarantees that you'll be able to run if there is an overwhelming turnout. For $15, it's worth it (to me).

Awesome! Do you plan to run all year (and therefore want to run in class) or just run as a guest / fun run? You can arrive at 7:30 to do the paperwork to join UFO then run in the morning, or arrive 12/12:30 to do the same and run in the afternoon. I run in OSP, which is the last run group of the day, so I won't be going until the latter time frame (plus I have another autox in the morning in Sunnyvale!) You can see the run group schedule on the website depending on how your car is classed if you want to run in that class.

Maybe see you there - should be good weather!

Right now, just for fun. It looks like I'd be classed in STU based on the SCCA rulebook. I may go early just for the rookie walkthrough (doesn't appear they have an afternoon one).. It's been a while since I've done an autox.

Hope to see you there!

They do shut down between the morning and afternoon sessions, and there is a walk through, so you're good with either selection.
