Recommendations for a tripod?
Would like something versatile for my DSLR, yet lightweight and something that can get wet for when we go hiking. Any quick recommendations?
best buy has one on sale right now for $10.
i picked one up this afternoon, since i was in need of one as well. it may not be the best ever, when the mount deck is extended to its furthest upright position, there is a slight bit of play in it, but not enough to mess up long exposure pictures
. it is VERY lightweight, and quite compact.
for $10 i am very happy with it

theres the link for it from best buy.
im sure some people could find flaws in it, but like i said, for $10 cant beat it
. it took some good pics for me tonight, was my first time shooting form a tripod.

Bogen Manfrotto... either the 190xbpro, or 055xbpro. You'll need a head though, and I'd look into any of the bogen ball heads.
google these model#'s to learn what makes them popular.
BTW, Best Buy does Carry Bogen Manfrotto pods, but only on-line.

If you are just looking for something to make a steady support, and not something that necessarily brings the camera up to eye level then something like the Ultrapod II might work for you.
It is about...crap no ruler handy...with the legs spread the mounting plate is abgout .75 of an inch taller than a mini-mag lite (2x aa). It also has a velcro strap built in so you can use that on a branch or street sign post. I have found it to be very sturdy. The only issue might be with longer lenses as the base is only about 10 inches.
I think I paid about $15 for it at a Talls Camera shop.
