If it's giving you a lot of grief I would download Virtual PC (free) and use an XP image.

I got the drivers downloaded and when the laptop connects to the ECU it goes to 100% downloaded and then the whole program goes blank . A error box comes up wanting me to send the error report to Haltech . I click ok and the Haltech program comes back up . Not connected of course

any help ?

I just got down deleting the Haltech program and re-installing it ....with no beetter results

Video drivers. Thats your problem. I had the same problem, and when Iupdated my video drivers, it went away. It has something to do with not having an updated enough version of DirectX. The Haltech program is trying to display the 3D maps, and it needs a certain version of DirectX, and apparently, the version you have (and that i had) was too old.

The software requires Direct X 9.0c which you can find under the \App\DirectX 9.0c directory of the installation media of the haltech software. In there run DXSETUP.EXE.

If not download it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You will need to do this if u are running vista as vista has DX10. Don't worry they both run on the same machine. Just install it.

Funny question maybe but is there an open API to add in some stuff? I'm thinking about a manual switch that'd trigger something on an onboard mini-itx carputer to swap maps? I write code and would love to play around with it promise no leaks

they will have an add on module for 32 inputs/outputs, programmable. I know that's not exactly what you were asking, but you could probably hook up these lines to a car pc for all sorts of interaction.

Funny how video drivers are important for a pice of tuning software, but I guess the 3D map displays require them

Hal,

I was looking at the website and saw that one of the features listed is overboost protection. Could this be used to stabilize boost during shifts on the auto?

I don't think it's designed for any kind of stabilizing - more like a fuel cut until boost falls back to a certain psi. I don't think it would feel so good, but should work.

yeah i initially had the fuel cut setup on the utech for the boost spikes between shifts (if they got to high) and it felt like the car was just dying so JT took it off when he tuned it and told me he would rather see it run lean for a second than hit fuel cut. I don't know its just one of those things that brings out my OCD

How much of a spike are you seeing? And I would not have the car go lean even with spike.

I will be tuning a twin turbo automatic soon with closed loop boost control. Have you tried this?

it usually spikes from like 8.5 to 11 or 12 psi for a split second between hard shifts

I hate to say it but I'm actually not sure what makes closed loop boost control closed loop

I'd like to know too. Also, can you explain what "feedback" is in regards to EMS's and tuning?

the feedback setting on my avcr is basically how quickly the wastegate responds to supres overboosts. the faster the response the better control it has to prevent overboosts but it also tends to cause the turbo to spool slower. don't know if its the same as haltech's f/b control though
