I'm all about people having their own style but this is a bad idea. 1st, you're disowning the Z concept by going to those... Do some research and you'll see what I mean.

2nd, your stock 06 wheels cost more than these and are better quality. Our wheels were engineered to work on our car and perform up to a certain level. This is the argument against Rotas and others that can not perform. If you upgrade wheels, you are looking at Volk, Rays, Work, etc. The 19" setup I've priced from each company was over $3000 with tires.

Remember I have an 06 touring AT. TY in advance for anyone that knows. I only have 800 miles till warranty expires so if I can catch something early that'd be nice.
I didn't know that you could "romp" on an auto Z ??

Brad is right about this. People don't just put Volks, Rays, Works, etc.. on Zs because they are expensive. They do it because they are viable upgrades. Do I want to spend 3.5k on a set of wheels and tires? No, but I'm sure I'll do it anyway.

there is absolutely no reason to spend $3000 on wheels. I have a set of 18" Atech Weapons that are stronger and lighter than non-forged OEMs. They cost about $175 each. And I've seen more cracked 5 spoke OEM 18s than Rotas (in Z fitment).

I have a set of $3200 19" Advan T6's sitting in my garage. Wish I knew what was wrong with them, got an Xray machine I can borrow? They've never been curbed in the slightest and have 4000 miles on them. I was pretty much told me to go f' myself trying to get them looked at by Machin or Advan.

My current wheels use the exact same anodized forged barrel as the Volk GTS, SF Challenge and GTV. Kinda sucks its going to rain today. If I dont have enough wax on them, they will be irreversibly water spotted. I have to go move my car if they run the sprinklers at work on a sunny day. Hey, nothing $600 in refinishing wont fix right? Bottomline, they are a pain in the ***. Look the caring for your Rays post. They are not kidding. And, try replacing one wheel.

I cant say anything bad about the 1pc Forged Volks. I believe they are the best, highest quality wheels one could put on a Z/G. However, if something happens to them, dont think just because you spent 3x more than other wheels that anyone will help you resolve a problem. That is my only complaint with that... and its a big one. They rarely ever have issues... but its not like you could call Rays or Machin if you did. If you were smart enough to use one of the better vendors here, you *might* get some help..

If you have to run a 2 or 3pc wheel, all I say is *try* to keep it under 26-ish lbs or your car is gonna feel like a turd.. If youre buying a 1pc cast wheel, try to find out who really makes them. I would avoid some wheels, but many of them can easily be traced to the real manufacturer, and often its the same manufacturer putting out quality OE wheels off the same equipment. Hell, even Axis is partnering with Rays now. One difference tho, if an Axis wheel cracks, they send you a new one right away. GL getting that service from the $$$$ wheel companies.

Tim, I wasn't saying that expensive wheels are better, I was agreeing with Brad that there is no point on spending money on wheels that are worse than what you have. And I agree with you about the larger companies. I've built cars for years. Trust me Budnik, Billet Specialties, Boyd Coddington, etc... would laugh in your face if you told them something was bunk with one of their wheels, or tried to get their help in replacing one.

The problem is, people set a standard for others to follow. It's true in every corner of Automotive culture. Often times, when one person says it's cool, he/she can convince five other morons that it is and then the dominos fall.

actually, I retract that.... there are some reasons to have 3k+ wheels.. just not on a daily driver. Youre only setting yourself up for heartbreak and a lighter wallet.

Ya know, people talk alot of **** in the wheel forum, but at any meet, and this includes Zdayz where $$$$ wheels were everywhere, most people are more impressed if you pulled off a badass look while NOT spending 4k for wheels and tires. That means the right offsets, color and wheel that is proportioned well to the rest of your car (and whatever mods). People see a car from 20ft and say "holy ****, thats hot... what? those are Rotas!???"

But, I'm not really speaking to 20" chromies. Youre gonna have a hard time pulling off that look on a Z. Even with something like a Work T1S in RMC or whatever they call it. But, if youre hell bent on 20s (no pun intended), I say best of luck and I cant wait to see you pull it off. I have my doubts on the wheel you posted.. but hey, things often look 10x better in person than in pics.

It's actually funny though Tim, I have been looking at the A-Techs for a couple of weeks. Bronze of course.

these were supposed to be spark silver, I bought them as bronze, only set they had and said no more were coming in ever (thanks Discount Tire Direct).. But the powdercoater put TONS of clear on them and they came out gray suckth much in almost all sunlight. So, if I can find a way to strip all that PC off, they are going to be flat black and I'm putting winter tires on them. this will likely never happen and end up in storage for the next 20 years.

I don't like Volks, Rotas, ect... Due to the look of them. Read "IMO". However, I understand the function behind them. And would get some if I did need/use that function. You guys forget this is an AT Z. I don't track it. I don't race it. I do "get on it from time to time" (not to be mistaken with the word "romp"... sorry bout that. lol)
It's a DD. So that said, I want 20's in the rear and 19's in the front. Noone can convince me otherwise.
Tware, have you seen the Axis shine? Love that wheel!! But not the word Axis on one of the spokes. Thus, I am looking at the petrol line.
Here is a pic of 20" axis on Z.

*If you see a red x, it's cause you are most likely at work and your employer blocks photobucket pics*

well, that looks better... but your wheel alone will weight 31.2 lbs. your tire will be heavy, and you'll have moved all the weight out further. You... are... gonna... hate... that... If you decide you want to get on the throttle, better plan ahead. I would not be surprised to see this combo topping out near or over 60lbs per wheel/tire. Adding 40lbs of rotational weight. From the dept of numbers I just pulled out of my a$$, your car will feel like it has lost 20+ hp. I'm not trying to change your mind, I'm sure they will look great in person.. Just telling you what to expect.

Jeff we just have different experiences and I guess own our Zs for different reasons. I think Brad, Tim, and I were just trying to explain to you an option, not trying to change your mind. I love big wheels, I mean I have 20s.... on my bagged S-10...

I'd give kudos to Steve on this if I could.... The ONLY budget setup (and I use budget in comparison to $3k setups) I have ever been jealous of is Steve's.... He was lucky and got that **** right the first time on a DIME!

BTW< I picked up my acoustic at lunch today! The bug has bit, no stopping now, I need $7k for lessons and a keyboard and Raymond electric trap now...

So I see all this talk about going fast and better performance but no one ever comes to autox...or to centerville??? I have tried to invite everyone out to autox's but no one wants to come. Maybe its to hard to do....So.....

I think we need a centerville day. Not a bad drive...plus I can beat up on some manual transmission z's I have Tri-state(autox) this weekend and next weekend is another autox in Little Rock. A two day event (18th and 19th). So lets plan a centerville trip on Oct. 25th. If we need to move the date back another week for more to come that is fine to. This isn't set in stone so whatever date is best for everyone (25th or later) is good.

O yea I know. And I appreciate it for sure. Especially since I'm a newb to Z's. I've always owned wranglers. Except last car was a type-s. I believe you all when you say it will be slow. But hell, the car is slow right now Wait, I should say, it feels slow. It's actually faster then my s was but the s "felt" faster when accelerating. Anywho, I don't ever plan to beat up on the Z. I'll simply be using it as a grocery getter.

I've never received one of these invites?? I've been on here for almost 3 years now, and I tried to organize a drive to a SCCA autoX in Jonesboro last March before my divorce... I've been to Centerville about 3 times now too.

Problem now is I've resigned the Z to my only car for the next 6 years since I did get divorced, burning through parts and tires is not in the equation... with exception to 2 Sunday's ago of course...

There are two threads in the "south central" section right now about autox. There was talk about the autox's in this thread....But the next local one is at war memorail stadium. Oct 18th and 19th. You can come one of the days or both.

So what have you ran at c-ville?

I've never run my personal vehicle at any competitive racing event.
