2006 "the Run": PMI HPDE/track day

We've gone to a good Mexican restaurant called the Cactus Flower ($9-12 dinner) in the past, but I'd like to suggest trying another Pueblo favorite, La Renaissance. It's still a casual place serving American favs and a bit pricier ($10-18 for the entire meal- soup, salad, entree and dessert), but a great place to unwind and talk about the day before we head back. Neither place is too far from the track or the highway. Anybody up for this?

Well, for the past two weeks I have been contemplating attending this HPDE, it seems like it would be best for me to pass on this HPDE. It looks like there will be a great group and it sucks that I have to miss it. Everyone have a great time and be safe. I was lucky enough to go to PMI a couple months ago, but still wish I could have made this event. The instruction from Dave and Gary make the $100 seem like nickels.
Thanks to Dave for setting this up, maybe next time I’ll be able to make it.

The forecast for Saturday calls for mostly sunny skies over PMI with a high reaching almost 60 degrees F. No telling how HIGH the participants will go!
Is everybody putting the finishing touches on their cars? Any last minute problems or questions to discuss?

The GF and I are confirmed as being able to go to dinner so hopefully you can sneak us in those reservations.
Also, still up in the air on the brake pad install. Gonna pray i can get it done before heading down to the springs tonight. See everyone there, lookin forward to the event. The summer tires went back on last night and its shop day today!

david,
i've got the back brake pads on, and installed the lines last night, which seemed to go easier than I expected.
I'm bleeding the brakes this afternoon, and that motul fluid is virtually the same color as the existing fluid. how do i know when the new motul fluid is coming out of the bleed valves? (i.e., will it be a noticeable change in color/absence of contaminants?)
again, the unknown is the issue, not necessarily the mechanics of process.

At this point, I'd see if anyone has a (relatively speaking) high-temp pad you can use for the rear. Rears won't take quite the punishment the fronts will, but make sure that you bed them in before the track day.
BTW- if you have one pad that is wearing abnormally, check to make sure the caliper piston is not sticking. Sometimes the caliper seal wears out and allows contamination to seep in and cause the piston to stick. That is more likely than not the source of additional friction and wear.

Well, I hope it works out.
one question on my line swap out--three of the hard lines had a small black plastic insert on the line fitting when i took off the stock rubber lines (LF, LR, RR). the FR hard line did not have this plastic insert. any ideas on this?

Amarao,
Pep-Boys usually has Hawk HPS pads in stock. They're better than the stock pads, but still not as good as a dedicated track pad. I think it's your best option at this stage and you just have to be careful not to let them overheat. If they do, you'll get pad deposits on your rotors and they will rumble and shake like crazy when you apply the brakes. Trust me on this, I know from experience.
