Default UR Pulley install HElp!

I've been defeated by the stock, crank pulley bolt that's stuck. I have angled and 10" extension for my ratchet wrench but still wouldn't budget. I'll give it another go sat morning but it seems hopeless anybody wanna give me a hand this sat, if I'm unable to take it out? Also, they only sent 1 belt (thicker one). would the other (stock) one fit?

Hey Canny...That bolt is a bit rude to say the least! What I did was use a 1/2 ratchet with a long extension. I fought with it for 5 minutes and decided to use a hollow metal pipe (2' long) for additional torque. The bolt unfastened with ease after using that pipe. ......Just remember to place your gear to 6th and have someone step on the brake while your loosening the bolt. Otherwise the crank seems to turn with the bolt and you end up with negative results.

To bad I am heading off to Wennie Roast on Sat. otherwise I would have been there to help you out. Good Luck.

I got an 18" breaker bar from Sears. It was the longest they had and I wish they had at least a 2'. Anyway, I was able to get the bolt off with the 18" but it took me pretty much everything I had (pushing against my ramps and front wheels with my feet, with my hands braced between my waist and thigh and basically doing a squat for all I was worth.) Long story short, I wouldn't try it without anything shorter than an 18" to a 2' breaker bar.

This is easy. Get the breaker bar or 1/2 ratchet(prefferably brealer bar) with an extension on the crank pulley bolt, set it at the 5 o'clock position touching the ground. Now turn the engine over by barely cranking the starter-DO NOT start the car. Give the starter 2 blips and the bolt will be loose. I have done 2 CP installs like this, its painless, it works, you'll be done in 30 minutes

This way works well. You should really use a breaker bar though. A ratchet is more likely to break.

Oh..I forgot to mention. You will need two belts. When I bought my betls from Stillen it came with two SMALLER belts due to the smaller diameter crank pulley. The stock belt will not fit!

thanks for all the input. I nearly **** my pants trying to get that thing loose. why the hell wasn't I sent 2 belts? that's what I need to know I had a pipe and it didn't fit over my rachet.. dunno if breaker bars would give me enough torque.. doh... I try some stuff mentioned above, after I purchase a belt somewhere. alberto's technique seems a bit scary, but I'll be trying anything to get that sucker off.

hmmm I wonder if Stillen would have the belt in stock. somebody told me the other belt would fit.. maybe it'll be too loose and start sqeaking?

Albert,

How did you stabilize the socket from loosening and perhaps stripping the bolt? Even worst, is there a remote chance that the socket/breaker bar flying out and damaging the radiator?

Alberto's method has been used by many...you secure the socket/breaker bar to the floor which has very little play. If done right your chances of striping the bolt or having things fly around is very slim.

It's a 5at, so I can't put it in gear and step on the brakes.

You can go to Autozone and borrow crank pulley puller.
