Default Wish me Luck !

I'm heading to the California Speedway tomorrow afternoon/evening to see what my car will do. I've been stalling since I still have stock tires and I know they'll be spinning. But what the hell. Maybe it will be a little cooler too.

The track is located in Fontana off the 10 Freeway if anyone decides to head out there.

I have a full on digital video camera which would do this nice, and I only live like 30 minutes from that track (if its the one Im thinking of). I'd love to video it if he gets back to me with details (exact location, time etc.)

Default Saturday Run

I had my Father in Law Video'sd the runs. I had 2 and both were lousy for several reasons.

1. Driver Skill with this much power
2. Lousy Stock tires with the Bridgestones RE40
3. Hot Weather. Track conditions were not good ( 2 other n/a Z's were runing mid to high 15's. Hell even 300 ZX's were running poorly.

All Excuses aside......

The best run of the 2 was at 14 flat 101.04 miles per hours. The car ran extremely strongly but tires couldn't handle the load. Launching at about 2500 RPM I spun. Power shifting through the gears I spun the tires again and began to fish tail so I had to back off. I did suprise the hell of an SVT Supercharged Mustang though. While he got an early start I caught him and then had to break off when my rear end got squirrley.

I will retun to Fontana in the next 2 weeks with REAL street/track slicks and do this again.

I will be in Wyoming both next weekend and the one after that. But the following weekend, I think I will make it a point to check it out.

What is this all about anyway? You pay some money, and you can then race against others? What is the nature of the event?

Hey jritoli, I was there Saturday and I saw your 14.0 run. that was a good, but I bet you can do even better. You must be the fellow with the Procharger SC or at least the intercooler. Nice set up!

We went past each other a couple of times and I waived but I don't think you saw me (it's OK, I have very dark tint ). Anyhow, it was a good day, but awful hot - 98°F. Next time a bunch of us Z'ers should go together. It'll be fun.

It was my first time racing at a strip with my Z, or any car for that matter, and it was definitely a learning experience. First run, I left the damn VDC on and this 60's Ranchero or something with 11" rears and headers emtying into a 4" barrel tube, no muffler, no cats, no nothin' absolutely demolishes me with an 11 sec. ET. Second run, I do a lttle better opposite a camaro SS (I think) in the left lane and I pulled 14.5 and about ten car lenghts on him. Third run, I lost traction from the get go and lost the race by .5 second to a modded WRX (exhaust + ?).

There was another performance or enthus. redline Z there too, he briefly stopped by to chat after a run, but I didn't see him again. There was a TON of Lancers there. Seemed like every other car was a Mitsu. A bunch of EVOs, three STIs. A bunch of Soobs, several Dodge R/Ts, one S2k, two identical red Vipers (both ran low 12's). And then there was this green TT 300XZ that ran 10's or 11's I think. Very impressive given the air temperature.

With as many cars as there were on Saturday, maybe 200-300, one should be able to make five or more runs in one day, if you get there early and stay late. You can race till 11:00 PM but have to pass inspection and be in by 5:00. Inspection starts at 2:00. I didn't stay past 7:00 cuz I was extausted and had sunburn

Hope to see more Z's there next time. I might go next week, but not if it's this hot again. BTW, for any of you guys, if you haven't been to Californai Raceway, go prepared and take plenty of liquids with you. The inspection line wait time is at least an hour in the hot sun and there are no refreshments anywhere in sight until you get to the grand stands. BTW, admisstion is $10 to get in, $20 if you're racing.

Sorry I missed you. I did the one Redline there on Saturday but no one else. I was with my son and his friend was running his Camaro so that seemed to be where we spent most of our time.

Yeah my runs really sucked the tires with and wthout VDC did absolutely nothing. But next time.....I will have soem real ones I hope. I think it weould be great if we could get somemore members on this sight to go. I can't next week because of Labor day but I'll be there on the 6th for sure.

You saw that I raced 2 Mustangs. Even though they were modded and had huge slicks etc. the only reason the won was my tires. once in 4th gear I gained quickly on them including the guy with the SVT Supercharged 4.9. I saw him looking over....

Oh well better luck next time.

I know. Without good rubber it's very hard to get traction. I spun mine almost the entire first gear. But I was running 40 psi all around. Next time I'll drop the rears to 20-25 psi and try to avoid the burnout puddle, which doesn't seem to do any good on street tires anyhow, see what happens. See you out there.
