Default repost of South Point Nissan buying problem

Repost from my thread in general. Wanted to see what some local folks, especially Vova151 (Mark, right?) thought about this.

--------------------------------

Well, I am potentially picking up a black touring 6spd with nav, loaded, and burnt orange interior tomorrow. The problem is the general manager of another dealership has been driving it around to the tune of 680 miles on the odometer. They said it is going to have close to 800 miles on it when I am able to pick it up tomorrow.

So they already "lost" my silverstone model by selling me a car that was already sold, and now they are trying to sell me a car that I consider to be used. They claim only the general manager has driven it, but I find it hard to believe some salesman didn't drive it themselves, or let some customers take it for a spin. All that said I have no guarantee that that general manager didn't rag it out like a madman. The tires won't be perfect, the front is probably going to have at least a few marks I am betting, if not worse.

My salesman, Ruben, isn't going to be in tomorrow when I pick it up. I tried to tell him I felt I should be getting a discount off this car for the trouble, and for the mileage, and he wouldn't budge (I hate talking to people on the phone, impossible to negotiate). A lot of sales people smoke it seems, and if I even smell a hint of smoke (I can easily smell smoke on someone who had cigarette smoke on them, then sat in the car) it is a deal breaker.

Mark (think that's you Vova151) and everyone else, what should I do? I don't like the idea of feeling like I am buying a used car for $37k. This is the highest markup model, and the most expensive you can option out any Nissan car I believe. Heck, it costs more than a G35 coupe with every single option on it. I can afford the car, and am getting a great rate, but this is still a very large purchase for me unlike a lot of people here.

Do you all think the miles are a big deal? Worth the miles if I can get some money off? I'm going to try to lay it out on the line to the general manager when I go to pick up the car and sign the paperwork that I am not leaving with the car unless he comes down on the price. The MSRP for a loaded touring is like 5k+ change over invoice I believe.

Thanks ahead of time for the help.

I'd pass....as long as you've waited, wait a little more to get a new one. The price can only go down as supply grows faster than demand.

I'd alsopass - it's absurd to buy a new car with that many unknown miles on it. Despite the warrenty, anything could be wrong.

IMHO, there are too many sales managers driving cars around like this. Perk of the job, I suppose, but then those arrogants SOBs also have the market under their thumb. Or at least, so they think.

Look around and buy elsewhere. Spend Sunday (when they are closed) going thrut he big lots up in Dallas and in Houston. You'll find one there.

This is the most f-ed up situation I have ever heard! Hell no I wouldnt buy that car!

I bought mine from Maxwell in Round Rock and it had like 6 miles on it and it had only been driven on and off the boat! They are long boats.

Those salesmen at S.Point are the most pushy, errogant fools I have ever dealt with.

Check somewhere else if you havent already bought your smoke fulled USED car.

Default One more "pass"

I'd make them find me the car I ordered... with the options I want. And without all the miles.

When I was at the dealership looking at my Z, the salesman brought in a list of cars that matched my preferences.... there must have been 6 cars on there that were exact or close matches.
None were in Texas, but they were willing to get on here for me.

I would ask for the same consideration form your dealer. If they do not offer to find you another car, then walk out. There are plenty of delaers willing to go the extra mile to make sure you are in the car you want.

Hope that helps.

He bought the black one - it looks/runs great, and he's happy w/ it.

Yep, Chris got a ride in it

I guess you missed my thread in member photos or wherever it was Vova151. I went against everyone's suggestions :/ I got a little more of a deal out of it, and I am happy. The problem with me having them try and find me one was that my combo, touring/6spd/nav is hard to find, and then I decided I only wanted a car with the burnt orange leather also, so that was another limiting factor.

All in all I am quite happy and I'm loving the car. Let me know if any Austin folks are getting together anytime soon, would be cool to meet some more Z owners. I know about that Bluebonnet run, but that's about it.

Rob there is a Z club meeting on the 31st. I'm going to try and make it. Check out the site for more info. There is also a Z show this weekend in SA that I'm going to if the weather holds out.
