Cool...........you can go to Mineral Wells, TX - which is fairly close to you and make a Drifting /AutoX event......

www.fabricatedmotorsports.com - host for drifting events.

They have Drifting events every month at Mineral Wells Airport - there is an flat paved area they rent out. You can see the tire tracks if you zoom in on Google maps "satellite view".

DATES: august 23 - sept 20 - oct 18 - nov 22 - dec 13

Also, many clubs host AutoX events there as well, including SCCA: www.autocross.com/texasregion/ -- click "solo calendar" on the left.

October 25, 2009 Solo Event #8 Mineral Wells Airpark

Mineral wells track pad area is a HUGE open asphalt area........drift events always have two courses set up..... a beginner smaller course, then the larger main course for the day........along with a sectioned off area with a few cones you can set up yourself as a skidpad area where you can practice around a single cone, two cones, etc........

so its a perfect spot for someone new wanting to try drifting.......

Its an awesome location for AutoX since its such a huge spot, that you actually have much higher speed runs, longer runs and shifting gears versus the small 2nd gear parking lot runs that most autox events are held in.

Hope you join us for one of those........at one of the last drift events we had about 10 members drive out to watch and a few enter.......

Wow! Jason thanks very much! This is exactly the kind of thing i was looking for when I started this thread. I will definitely be posting up here, look for a Black rx8 with wv tags that'll be me. Now I've got something to look forward to- I was seriously considering buying a dirt box car to get my fix, looks like that's about the only automotive thing that happens in Abilene. i know Aaron fairly well, my cousin use to work for him in San Antonio, TX and he moved to Ft worth about a few months before I moved to DFW.......

I'm about an hour and 15 minutes away from Mineral Wells in Grand Prairie.

no the video i showed you was from golf greyhound in houston.... Daily Drifter hosts events out there..... not sure how often though... havent gone to any events in a while....

WELL OH HAI!! I'm here in Abilene, and it only took me an extra qt in the 8 to get here what a long drive. Had some shenanigans on the way here in Nashville. Looking forward to dragging my *** over to mineral wells, it doesn't seem too far away from here I remember passing it on the way in! Woot!

 

Your 8 is burning oil? You sure you didn't pick up a 06 Z instead?
