UTEC 'Upgrade?'
Man, this software looks awesome. Should make tuning a Vortech on my own much easier! (but still tough
). I'll have to give both a shot, since I can't tell which one is better. The UTI dashboard looks pretty sweet though.

Ok, I've spent too much time look at this stuff. The BIG QUESTION for me is, are either of these programs (MPS, UTI) still being supported and updated? The forums on the UTI site are dead (last post back in 2007). I'm going to email both guys to see what's going on.
Well, Jeff got back to me about UTI. He said it's still alive and kicking, and that he's working on UTI-3 right now. I guess I'll give it a shot first when I get my UTEC.
EDIT: Oh, and he also said it should work with the Innovate LC-1 as well, even though he advertises it working with the LM-1.

yeah I finally bought the uti software, I've been reading on the subaru forums as Jeff posts over there quite a bit. He's been doing a lot of updates and the software looks really nice, now I just need better weather to mess with it.
I Just downloaded the Beta4 and finally this thing work on Dashboard.!!!! Now how do I start the log without doing a PULL? The Current Version has a "Start Log" button you can click so you can log everything. I guess this is a working progress.. I'm just happy that Dashboard is working so now I can see my IAT without going to Utec.
He said he made it so it shows up perfectly on a 800x600 screen or equivalent so it doesn't need to go full screen. Also it will auto log pulls and and you can set parameters so if your pull hits certain requirements it will auto save the log. Lots of cool stuff going on but he said he still has a lot of stuff to fix and is asking for people to report bugs.
^^ we want videos!
I've never seen it in action, to see how reactive the Dashboard is.
Once I get it up and running in a few months, if there isn't already a video up, I'll try and make one.

I just read the big thread on NASIOC forum about UTI. The auto tune stuff caught my eye for doing my part throttle AFR tuning. If I understand it right the UTI-me program will take your UTI log compare it to your target AFR.csv file and a UTEC tune file and create an new edited UTEC tune file for you to upload to the UTEC that is supposed to be closer to your tru target AFR.csv file? I'd of course want to review the new UTEC tune file data before uploading it.
If the above is correct and works as advertised you can drive around part throttle and use the UTI data logging in many load scenarios to populate the log cells to match the UTEC tune cells. After this is done a few times your AFR accross the board should be pretty colse to you target? Sounds too good to be true?

yeah I have the uti me but haven't actually tried any of it because his newest version of uti beta won't pick up my aem wideband so I'm waiting to actually use it. He said he's working on it so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
Hopefully you will get your answer soon Mardi. I just installed UTI3 Beta and started playing around with it connected up to the UTEC running on the 9v battery. The AutoTune feature is a bit confusing to me, and I don't really know how it could be very accurate - but I'm interested in some more information on it. Do you have that link to the NASIOC thread?
I plan on driving around and filling up the cells to match against target AFR and just going against those to make changes. We'll see how that works.

Thanks Mardi.
Hmm...there seem to be issues with UTI and the Innovate LM-1. I have a LC-1, so hopefully I won't have the same problems. Otherwise, I might have to give MPS a shot. I just hope I don't break something in the process of trying these programs out

The procedure for autotuning with UTI is as follows:
- Open with UTI-ME the "Target AFR" table of UTI, file "PumpGas.csv" and modify the values as your needs.
- Open UTI, and clear the tables, then start driving around to populate the tables with data. When you have finish collecting data, press the button "autotune" in UTI. You can save this tables data if you want but is not necessary.
- Open UTI-ME again, open your actual fuel-ignition map and open the data tables of UTI, that will be the file "Tables.csv". Now UTI-ME will merge the values and make and approach of the changes that you need in your fuel map to reach your target AFR.
Be sure to save your "autotune fuel map" and upload to UTEC, and start the process again
Another interesting tip if you are tuning the UTEC in a NA car, is that you surely have realized that usually you only log data in very few load columns, maybe from 40% to 90%, making to the UTEC to have less resolution in the mapping.
To make the UTEC to log in all the columns you have to change the min and max voltage of MAF for mapping in the parameters section of the UTEC. I think I have something like min voltage set to 2.6 and max 4.8. Play with these values and you would see how now you enter in other columns, increasing your map resolution
