Will an EMS help ME?
im trying to figure out if one or any of the available engine managment systems will really be worth it fro someone in my situation.
the only mods ive done so far and/or really plan on doing are:
-k/n drop in
-nismo cat-back
maybe:
-MDE 5/6 iso thermal spacer
-MDE mrev2
All im really trying to accomplish is some extra torque and a few extra ponies. i wont be doing FI.
i'd like those with EMS to chime in on whether I would benefit from purchasing a Unichip/eManage/Utec/etc, and IF any of these will help me 'out-of-the-box' .
i have an 05 gsxr600 and purchased a piggyback ems(power commander 3), and the manufacturer would let you download pre-tuned maps for your specific bike with certain mods on it..like you could go and say gsxr600+aftermarket AF+full exhaust, and you could download a precompiled map. is this possible with any of these EMS for the 350z?
help!

You don't have nearly enough done to warrant an EMS. Your car will be fine.
I think that if you were to do an aitr intake, cat back, plenum spacer and most importantly, a cat-delete (the single biggest mod that affects AFR) then you can go get an EMS to add a little more fuel to prevent knock and maybe play with the timing to get some hp and tq.
I have a Turbonetics-charged Z with the Greddy E-Manage Ultimate.

we picked up 19 hp on a bone stock G35, there is always room for an EMS, especially with nitrous.
thanks for the referral doug....

well in his case, he is running nitrous, so i would say its more of a safety step to take.
i usually try to talk people into EMS systems who have bolt ons that are going to upgrade to some sort of FI later on. then it isnt such a big step all at once...

I concur as far as going FI later-on as I did (using Turbonetics ST w/ Greddy EU tuned by BTM). Not familiar with nitrous though.
Safety IS paramount though.
I'm going to bump this thread with a question:
I have a brand new e-Manage Ultimate. I purchased it when I thought I was going to supercharge my 'Z.' I have since decided to stay N/A. I'm wondering if maybe the e-Manage Ultimate is a little "overkill" for my set-up. I realize it won't hurt me to tune my 'Z' with the Ultimate, but would anyone recommend selling my unit and just going with the e-Manage Blue instead? My performance mods are as follows:
* Exhaust
* Headers
* Hi-Flow Cats
* Intake
* Spacer
* Pulleys
Thanks for any help/advice...

You don't need to write " 'Z' "- just write, Z.
Secondly, just keep the EMS. You might want to upgrade in the future, even if it may be years and in addition, the Ultimate can help you with your current, well-rounded, power-related mods.
I think you will be very satisfied in keeping the Ultimate for your NA mods.
