Has anyone got the utec knock light to work on their z ,if so how?
I was wondering where a person would get a signal that would work as a tach signal to get the knock light made by utec to work in a z...any ideas, experiences? ?
seemed as i searched there werent many folks that use or have been very lucky with this product ,but for 100 bucks and the i need to work on something itch ...i really hope its a huge pain haha should buy me some time before i feel its time to work on something else haha
I also believe that this is a full stand alone unit though it seems it would work much better connected to the utec as you have discribed for it would log a knock event and display as well ,so ill try my luck ,if anyone has used this connected to the utec I would add you to the christmas mailing list if you could throw me a bone here as to connection advice ....thanks again for the input everyone

I would recommend calling turboxs techs support - the phone support is usually pretty good. When I had the UTEC, I remember asking them and they said the UTEC and knock light were two completely independent products. The firmware for the 350z UTEC did not support the integrated knock light function. It's been a while now though so perhaps I am recalling the details incorrectly...
/\ +1 I know Jiining also have/had the knocklight and he had to tap to the ECU to make it work. I did call Turboxs about this and they said the same thing that both product are a standalone. If someone can verify that connecting the knocklight to pin 3 work then I'll buy the knocklight in a heartbeat.

nah i asked before as well. its a standalone product for the z/g UTEC. Hell the shift light function doesnt even work on our utec. nor the 2 step or launch control like the subies have.
does anyones immobilizer setting work either? mine doesnt.

well im going to install this thing tomorrow ill let you all know how that works out im going the stand alone rte.....ill be calling them at t xs also to make sure im doing it correct....ill snap a few pix and post em for you all ,then we can decide if it was worth the work haha
Installed and works fine even the shift light though its a bit hard to set up ,I used coil 1 signal from the ecu for a tach signal and seems to be working fine,PM if interested and Ill fill you in on all the details , was really easy though
Cheers!
so the knock light is hooked into the UTEC? the stock ECU doesnt montior knock over 5k, so this would have to get some sort of output from the UTEC to make it worthwhile. I hope you got it working with output from the UTEC!
you hooked up the shift light just like you would any other aftermarket shift light. no surprise there.

No. Knocklite is a standalone product and doesn't work with Utec. Knocklite is the one monitoring the knock and you can set sensitivity on the unit.. Jiniing has been using this for over a year now so he'll know exactly where to tap to get the knock signal.
Here's my last conversation with him..

It really just takes some driving around so you can figure out what sensitivity level to have it at.
As far as the install, basically you need the FSM and you have to find what pin the knock sensor is at and just tap that wire. Then you just need power and ground. ALso, since we do not have a tach signal from our ecu, You can try to tap the shift light to the ignition coil #1, apparently the knocklight is supposed to convert the cylinders firing into RPM but it didnt work for me.
