RX8 Vs 350Z
#21
i owned a 06 silver rx8 about 3 months ago then decided to trade it in for my 06 Z. So i have owned both cars. I like the styling of the Z better, it has better aftermarket support, its a whole lot faster and the resale value is way better. Plus its a ton better on gas. The thing i miss on the RX 8 is the 4 seater plus the 2 suicide doors. And honestly its more fun to drive as long as the road is twisty. It feels to have a better balanced suspension and it easier to drive fast in the corners. But it was a gas and oil guzzler. Plus after i got beat on the highway by a pontioac grand prix...i was like "this ios suppose to be a sports car" days later i traded it for my Z and dont regret it. But i wont bash the RX8 b/c it was fun to drive, they look nice, and it was a good all around car. It just bothered me that it took a greddy turbo ($5000) for it just to run 13.8's and no other aftermarket part would boost the HP on that rotary. But there was nothing like reving that thing up to 9200 rpms and it feeling smooth. That being said...i would like to drive an
S2000 b/c i hear is comparable in 1/4 mile times with the Z, handles great, and has a 9000 rpm redline also....but i wouldn't trade my z for it based solely on its looks.

RX7 > RX8. 350z > RX8. I have test driven both cars back to back, before buying my Z. I actually almost made the mistake of buying the RX8 the day I did buy my Z. The price of a used 8 was hard to beat, but when I got to the dealership, they had already sold it. Then the dealer tried to sell me a new 8, to which I think they are over priced for their performance. He mentioned having some used 350z's, so I was hooked.
On a side note, I noticed a lot of guys here mentioning that the 8 does really good in the twisties. Isn't it ironic though that the 350z clocks in just about identical lap times at a race track as an RX8 does. So, when the 8 boy's try to justify buying the car because it handles good....350z is identical in lap times to it. 350z is more of a Car than Rx8 is, sorry to burst their bubbles.

So in this case we may take them in a straight line, but.......
Its like this...yes the M3 is quicker in the 1/4 than a Z, but the Z will take it on the track. The rx8 on the other hand is slower than the Z in the 1/4 AND loses to the Z on the track.

honeslty the 06-07 Zs if u seen the comparison to the s2k were comparible in terms of handeling . The newers Zs with revised shocks. the only thing was the weight but the z is a weight transfer type car when braking the car becomes more balanced as the weight transfers from the front to the back. Not to mention the awesome susp of the new nismo zs. The s2k just doesnt have the power to pull out of a turn as teh new HRs in the Zs.
BTW the rx8 is a complete dog when compared to the Z. As long as there will be exits out of turns a rx8 will never reign anywhere with a Z. Its got great handeling but....its a compelete travesty how the engine of that car is the most horrib feature of the car.
But they do very well in rolex series. Becasue they have a insane weight.

The Mazda is the lightest car on the track, by far, but kicks butt on not only the Z (who was run into by a Porsche), but Corvettes, Pontiacs, and a Mustang GT. These RX 8's are kicking some major butt. I would love to say that the Z is the kicker...but alas it's the kickeeeee. If you don't watch this on Speed Channel, you should.

yea but the Z there running isnt 100percent. They esitmate that 30rwhp is needed to get into the top 10 with there weight. The rx8 weight has been goverened since then but still is a issue since its lighter then anything out there. They have been doing very well but , lets face it weight is there blessing. If not they would be in lower ranks. Its a great car they just have a great setup. And tire wear on that rx8 is lesser due to lesser power tq and the way teh car is desgined. I see the Z needed a weight reduction or a revup engine or a HR to be more competent ..and of course...noone hitting it.

Also, in a effort not to bash the car, ....the 350z and the rx8 to me have similar interiror build quality. So i dont see the point in raggin on its build quality.
