Once more: CR engineers did extensive research on the "first-dino-then-synthetic" myth
and proved it's just that, a myth. Synth' oil IS superior in every possible way; its only
set back is cost. Go with it early on, and you'll get the benefits of cleaner engine inter-
nal parts, a longer drain interval, etc. What I do is stock up when they have it on sale
(I recently bought it at $3.99/qt on base--Ft. Buchanan, Puerto Rico!) Needless to say,
I bought 8 cases of it, since I do my wife's Pathfinder, besides my beaZt.

I have #0681 Nismo. It has 1300 miles on it and I am going to be changing the oil tomorrow.. I planned on putting in Castrol GTX 5W-30 and a Maxima OEM Filter. I have been using Brad Penn oil for years. I have had (and do have) many small block and big block Chevys with solid lifters and some BIG compression. I am not an oil expert but was wondering if anyone had some further information on the Brad Penn 10W-30.. Certainly I would like to try it at 3750miles and send a sample out. Thanks for any information.

Well, they are right, Autozone IS now selling the CG! Bought two cases yesterday! Was using Amsoil, so I'm gonna get the Amsoil analyzed before putting in the CG.

GC for me too, Scott. Finally, after years of searching, I have finally settled on which oil I am going to use for the long haul!

My car has not been started since the week of Thanksgiving; I have Mobil 1 5W30 in the tank (not that it matters), can I expect some kind of hard wear at that first start up?

Guess there's no way around it, ya gotta start her up sometime! Just be easy on her until she is fully warm and down to idle.

I just changed out to Germanic Castrol 0W30 and Mobil1 filter ($50 oil change argh). I intend on doing a UOA after 7500 miles to see how it fares in the HR. So far, my oil pressure gauge reading is slightly higher than with the Mobil1 5W30 at idle, though I am not too concerned.

My HR had ~9000 miles on the odo at the time of change.

i doubt that happened.

you'd need to change your hood and sway bar and some other stuff.

Resolute,
I'm looking forward to your pp 5w30 UOA, pls post the results when you get them.
Also, I visited the DE UOA section, and saw that many ppl get great results with the Rotella-T 5w40. To my understanding, this is a diesel oil, with higher ash levels compared to gasoline oils. Wouldn't ash poison cat converters, faul plugs and 02 sensors? Why is this not a concearn?

well 3K on my change of Castrol Syn. 0w30. excellent results, and very happy with the oil, and KN gold filter.
Autozone has a special for 24.99 for 5 qyts of Castrol Synth. and KN filter, so went and just bought another round.
definitely one of the best recommended oil in my opinion.

What's factory fill on an 07/08? Is it that Nissan Ester oil or that just for the VHR engines?

I changed mine for the first time at ~1200 miles with whatever the dealer uses. I'm assuming they just used regular dino oil for the $34.95 change?
