HR - Aftermarket Clutch & Flywheel
I hear all the time that the light weight flywheels sound like cement mixers. So here are some
videos of cement mixers.
I would like to know if the Z with light weight FW sounds like this, or some other variation?
Could someone post a video of what their car sounds like with a new light weight flywheel?
Thanks so much,

That's too funny!
Ok..Let me put it this way..you get metallic grinding sound at lower (under 2000) RPMs. Once you're off and running, you won't hear it. If you're picky and sensitive to noise (like me), DON'T get a light weight flywheel and stay with stock dual mass. You can prolly reuse the stocker if it's in good shape (can't resurface). You will get better acceleration with it, but will also DECELERATE in RPMS quicker as well.
Here's a good explanation:
From my understanding, the lighter flywheel / clutch combo just amplifies more of the engine and transmission noises. The engine has power pules which create mechanical noises. Then there is the transmission that has gears that mesh which has backlash (looseness / slack).
All that harmonics is amplified when you install a light weight flywheel creating a "rattle" noise. If the clutch has a spring hub center, that will help with some sound absorption. If it's a solid hub, there is nothing else to absorb the power pulses and transmission backlash, therefore the "rattle" is more pronounced.
As you noticed this only happens at idle with foot off the clutch. Above a few hundred RPM the noise goes away as the engine / trans speed up and the creating increased sound frequency (power pluses) so that the noise is present.

So I found a cement mixer, Err... I mean a Z with a JWT flywheel, on YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyFgTg57j0Y
I see why people say that, that's an awful noise... But my car is a loud *****.
I have test pipes with Greddy Racing Turbo Full-Dual Ti-C Exhaust So I'm not
sure I could even hear it opinions? I would take a video of my car and post it
but it's 11:20pm and the neighbors don't really like it when I start my car, much
less at night. Loud *** exhaust FTW!
I'll post a video tomorrow, I have been needing to ***** my car out for a while
now anyway

Cement mixers
LMFAO!!! i can relate to that!! lol but lets not forget to ask OP what do you do with your car??????? is your garage queen? DD? weekend track ??? once you determine your car identity (use) then you can have a more clear view of what to do... if you don't participate any motorsport... stay stock ,,, safe $$

Even though the Z is my summer DD I don't want stock. Only reason I would go
stock on the clutch is for noise affecting resale.
I really want to go with a light weight flywheel but I'm thinking of selling
the car car come spring and buying a 370z, Pearl white of course. If I go this
route I thought I could move the aftermarket clutch over from the 350z to 370z
and and swap the stock 370z clutch into the 350z since it would be a pain in
the butt to swap and flop. Also it would be more convenient payment wise to
roll the sale of my 350 into the down payment on the 370... gahh too much crap
to think about... yuck :sigh:

My jwt sounded like a cement mixer up to about 2500 rpm. Then last night my oem csc blew (im guessing) and the car shat out all the clutch/brake fluid. I managed to get the POS home and park it in the garage. Wondering if its ok to leave the mess till the spring cause im at my wit's end with this b!tch. Shouldn't have bought the oe csc and waited for the heavy duty unit.
Oh well karma is a ***** and hopefuly it will catch up with the good charactered fellow that assured me it would be fine.
Anyways, my concern is will i cause more damage to my undercarriage, bell housing or clutch assembly if i leave it as is.... I figure the damage is done.

Did JWT ever come out with an HR clutch kit that fits right? I have been reading that the throw out bearing doesnt fit on the pressure plate for the HR right but I dont know how old those posts are...
They still use their DE kit.
We offer an adapter for the JWT kit to fit on the stock bearing so it hits the fingers correctly. Bearing sleeve
The South Bend DXD clutch kits we offer with the SS pressure plate will fit the stock bearing correctly as the fingers on the pressure plate are a little longer.

Here is the part number for the clutch: L3507-NCHR0
Here is the part number for the flywheel: L3507-NFHR0
Am I missing something? I know you'd have to still upgrade the CSC, right?
Upgrade the CSC is a must.
The difference between the HR and DE kit is the DE kit comes with a throw out bearing and the HR doesn't.
Other than that the DE and HR JWT kits are identical as far as I know, The only difference may be their HR kit may have less clamp load to help not blow the stock slave as fast which will also reduce it's tq holding ability. Same parts, same kit, different part #
The JWT is low cost because the disk is a stock organic clutch just like stock, the only upgraded part is the pressure plate with more clamp load.
If you want a good clutch with great pedal feel and good grab I would suggest a South Bend, Much better clutch disk materials and many options to choose from.

Yeah Ace, I know that
That's why I said I was considering buying the 370z and swapping OEM components into the 350z but then I need to own both vehicles at once and that means I can't use the money from the 350 for a down payment on the 370.
I'm just gonna forget about the switching cars and focus on paying off the 350z. Spend a couple months of solid work and get it payed off completely. I only owe 10k on it and it's and '08 so I'm happy.
Besides the more I look at the 370z and the Z in general the less I want one. It's such a complete production car. I feel I want a project car. I think I will sell my Z buy a 72 Firebird or 70s 280z and put all the body panels on a chromoly tube chassis, etc... I was thinking put an LS series engine in it but an RB26 would be lulzy (for the Firebird). I think I will stick with an american engine though I like the power at lower RPM.
