Default Confusion on model trim

Hi there quick question about model differences I was sold car as an 08 enthusiast 5AT but was told if the trim on door sticker shows G that its a Grand touring?I have all buttons on steering wheel cruise control, radio controls seek and mode and volume up/down. I have traction control button and cloth seats but no heated seats and no bose. Stock 18 inch rims 225/45/r18 on front 245/45/r18 on rear. Any help would be appreciated as nissan told me and everyone else their models base but it has all the controls on steering wheel and LSD. Thanks in advance

Not sure who told you that at the dealership, but they were talking outta their butts. From your description, you've got an enthusiast model.

Never seen a post listing models by such a coding scheme. Do you have a link?

Not surprised that a dealership employee had no idea about Z33 models. Between the constant turnover of dealership staff and the fact that the Z33 is over a decade old, it's not a news flash.

Yes it took me a minute but I found a link you scroll down to a comment by a guy named sean like 6 comments down. I did find out on reddit the code G stands for carbon interior color. I got it from a side dealer who got it from a auction it was repossessed from previous owner and good thing because he beat the hell out of it. I found a million hidden problems that I'm now stuck fixing. About 7 to 8k in stuff to fix.

Vehicle trim level/accessories ARE NOT spec'd in the VIN. (Someone above had an overactive imagination and is passing along erroneous BS as "information".) Many "accessories" are DEALER INSTALLED on existing cars which are assigned VIN (and tags) BEFORE leaving the factory.

Use the VIN Decoder: https://my350z.com/forum/vindecoder.php

Or look at this OFFICIAL NISSAN VIN breakdown:

Thank you and I ended up figuring out on reddit the trim code is for the interior color and code G stands for carbon interior/color. I also don't think that vin breakdown would work for me since it's HR and they aren't even included on your list. It ends at 2005 and vq35de no 08 or VQ35HR. Im not sure if it still applies. Thanks

Yes, there is an identification plate that denotes the body and interior colors. But that's it. Indicates nothing about the trim level, e.g., Base, Enthusiast, etc. (whose names indicate how the car is equipped). Again, this is not reflected anywhere in the VIN other than a given VIN is cross referenced to the trim level BY THE MFGR but is not encoded in the number itself.

As far as whether it applies to the ever special "HR" (of which 350Zs are only designated as such by people wanting to feel superior), Nissan VINs (as are every other mfgr) subject to the same VIN encoding throughout their respective lines and do NOT change year over year. They are INDUSTRY STANDARDIZED BY MFGR. The VIN is pertinent to the entire car package including body, chassis, engine and other serialized components like the transmission, differential.

There is NOTHING special about whether it is a DE or an HR or a VHR, a VIN is a VIN and is definitive and the encoding does not change. Period.

Here's an updated VIN chart up through 2012 MY Z34 if this will finally get the point across.

You clearly misunderstood I never said my or the HR is superior or that I got it to feel special? Like wth? The point has already been across not sure if you read the other comments but I already stated that I figured out the guy was wrong. I said that another poster on here mentioned that the trim code stood for models and was asking to see if the information was correct. The trim code G is for carbon interior and the trim is just for interior color. Obviously a VIN is a VIN I think what I said went way over your head. All I said WAS does it matter if its an HR since its not mentioned in the VIN Identification picture you posted since the years past 2005 or the VQ35HR WEREN'T LISTED. Why so much hate about the HR? I never said the HR is special, I simply asked if the photo you provided would still apply if the years or motor weren't included. You have a vendetta against the HR something? No need to be rude jeez, relax and btw I added the photo again so you CAN SEE WHY I ASKED

I misunderstood nothing. I was the one that said it was "special" in a jestful (OK, spiteful) manner. And I totally meant it that way.

I merely made the point that there is no model called a "350Z HR" but I see that in so many posts everywhere, not just here, many times in the context of a discussion of the DE vs HR. Just said it because it's a dumb argument, not saying anything about you or your HR-equipped car, just the context. If you look at my .sig, you'll see that I've had 'em all, DE/HR/VHR (as well as VG, L24, L28, U20, etc). And my point is that "Yes, the HR is a 'better' engine than the DE but not as good as the VHR" and that it had better be that way due to evolution. So, I just think that anyone calling their car an "HR" is just posing. Don't take it that I'm down on you or your car as my experience and ownership of all of them just says I love 'em all and that people needn't define the 33 lineup with a stratified approach.
