Nitrogen Filled Tires?
Have anyone filled thier tires with nitrogen? I know it's been used in the racing world for years, but I wonder if it's worth spending the money? I've heard that not only it stays in your tires longer and deos not fluctuate pressure, but also prevents corrosion. It is also lighter than air = better mpg?
What do you think?

If its free, then go ahead. Its main advantage is that it is "dry" without the water vapor present in air to cause the "corrosion". The pressure of the tires will flucuate slightly less because of the lack of water vapor also. To say that is doesn't flucuate pressure is totally incorrect however, all gases expand/contract with temperature. Corrosion resistance is worthless because our wheels are aluminum, not steel so they won't rust anyways. It is also not "lighter than air", at least not by an appreciable amount. Remember air is already 78% nitrogen
Edit: forgot to include that because nitrogen is a slightly larger molecule, it potentially will seep out of the tire less, so you may be able to go longer between refills, but if you have to go back to the tire shop to get it refilled, that kinda defeats the convenience factor, and the tires are supposed to be filled and checked when cold, so ideally you would have to leave the car there overnight for them to refill them to the correct pressure....LAME!

It costs $5 per tire, so it's not free. There are lots of positive as well as negative articles on the web summarizing the nitrogen and its use in tires. It seems that if air in the tires is already 78% nitrogen, then it looks like it's not really worth $20 dollars replacing it with the "100%" nitrogen/air.
