Default Modifying bolt pattern possible?

I've been doing a fair bit of research on wheels as of late, and one of the wheels that I actually like has the wrong bolt pattern. Its the VMR V710 (5 x 120mm).

I emailed a local wheel shop and asked them if they have any similar looking wheels. They responded saying that they could machine them from 5 x 120 to 5 x 114.3. I asked how this is done, ie do they drill 5 new holes and then fill up the other 5? They replied back saying "No it will only have the original five holes, you can not even tell".

I'm not an expert but to me this sounds massively dodgy & whatever method they use will probably impact the performance and safety of the car. Not too keen on my wheels falling off while i'm at the track.

Thoughts?

Edit: when replying please note that all spacers/adapters etc are illegal in my country.

well, im not sure on the wheel, but i have heard of some custom high end wheel manufactures drilling up to your asking pattern, as for filling holes then redrilling? that sounds crazy...........to be honest.........5x114.3 is a popular pattern, and i hate cars that have weird "non-norm" patterns...... i deal with that crap on my Xterra. Stupid 6 x 4.5 versus 5.5 pattern..leaves me with limited wheel options.....

i would call them back, ask them exactly what they are doing?

But to be honest, i would stick with another wheel, unless they are drilling only one set of holes to your asking pattern.......

Yeah, I haven't been able to find a concave mesh wheel with the same look.... I already emailed two different people at VMR and the response was "the wheels only come in 5 x 120 sorry".

here ya go.......what is the offset of those wheels, cause now you have to figure in a spacer.

5 X 4.50 to 5 X 120 Wheel Adapter 5450512010
* ADAPTER LUG NUTS INCLUDED
* FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)
* PRICE IS FOR 1 ADAPTER

http://adaptitusa.com/index.asp?Page...ROD&ProdID=118

Remember you need to see if there are gaps between the lug holes to accommodate for oem stud protrusion if you need a spacer less than 25mm thick. *do you understand what im saying?

another words, those VMR's must have a offset of like +30 to +45 or so...

I would look at wheels that fit the 350Z. Then make a selection. But that just me.

They sleeve the original holes - I have no experience with this, so I can't say if it's safe or not

normally that's true but I'm not 100% they would be able to do that on those because the space in between is quite minimal. More likely (by the response the OP got, at least) they would place the new holes near the current, resulting in a "universal 5-lug" look that would be similiar to this:

which obviously would be fine if you had a centercap, but otherwise would not look too great. The best suggestion would be the spacer route, so long as the wheels have a high enough offset as mentioned above; 5x120 is a BMW-specific fitament, and are available in high (+35 to +50) offsets.

^ ya see that, but for an offset hight like +50, man that nice wheel would look horrible with a hunky thick spacer behind it............good from far kinda thing......

OP, what offset do those wheels come in?

I've heard the quality on the Tenzo's arent great, not only that.. the tenzo has more spokes than the V710, and it doesn't come in a silver/machined colour.... they come in the black wheels with machined face (shown above), but it kinda gives it a 2D look, if you know what I mean?

If they were 100% machined look I might go for them.

Thanks, but all spacers/adapters etc are illegal in my country - so they will void my insurance.

Also.. don't adapters/spacers etc place strain on the bolts?

Wheels specs are:

19 x 8.5” / + 20mm, 35mm, 45mm 25.5 lbs (5 x 112 mm or 5 x 120 mm)
19 x 9.5” / + 22mm, 33mm, 45mm 27.0 lbs (5 x 112 mm or 5 x 120 mm)

i think bimmer owners do it all the time. Because they cant find 5x120 wheels that they like so they install a spacer that converts them to 5x114 pattern.

Your best shot is to order 5x112 and put floating lug nuts on them, or to be safer convert studs to floating bolts.

And you wouldn't also put those, right?

those are floating nuts.

Floating bolts are popular in Europe, as people do a lot of conversions between 5x98 to 5x100, 5x108 to 5x110, 5x110 to 5x112, 4x98 to 4x100, etc. If you find quality ones they will have TUV safety certificates.
