Just wondering about my TPMS light
can somebody chime in on this. i been through a couple full-tank fill-ups already with my new wheels (about 500 miles trip count). i did not transfer my TPMS sensors into the new wheels.
so i've been reading that in the forums that the TPMS light is suppose to come on at about 15-50 miles or so, but i still hadn't gotten it.
another detail is that i bought my car pre-owned. i'm beginning to think that the previous owner did something to it. if that is the case then i am very happy.
can anyone chime in on this? has anyone have this happening on your Z?
thanks

I believe that it should show as "---" (dashes) with no reading. I use my TPMS (I personally find them highly useful) so I'm not 100%. But, I do know that before my sensors "read" they show "---". Hope that helps.
just wondering about the TPMS warning light, that's what i was wondering about and it hasn't shown up yet.
thanks for the response!
and that (!) bugs the shlt out of me
and i have all 4 of them on the new rims
and good psi 35-38 all around
one of my tpms is a little off tho
takes 30min for it to be read

I would think that your TPMS warning light would be constantly on. But, I have a friend (03 Track) that has never used TPMS and his is the same. The only thing I can think of is that the previous owner disconnected it. The reason why I say that is because there's a beep/noise that goes off too and you did not mention that (assume it's not going off). You may want to try resetting the ECU?
I did find this TSB on the web if you're interested: http://www.*********.com/zwiki/TSB_0...es_Or_Stays_On

about 500 miles so far and i haven't gotten any warning lights with no TPMS
The behavior of your TPMS varies depending upon the model year of your Z.
For example, my 2003 Performance model shows “-----“ in the LCD display, and doesn’t show anything (not the “!” indicator light”) on the dash when I mount my winter wheel/tire setup that has no sensors installed.
Later models with TPMS display differently, so it’s obvious that Nissan altered this feature for different year cars.

I feel the same way (I also "lucked-out" since my TPMS works perfectly when the wheels sensors are in place, and "turns-off" completely when the sensors are not installed). Nice.

another odd thing is that before when i had TPMS sensors in the car it lit up to tell me my tires are low in air.

so it works when i want it to and doesn't work when i don't want it to work.
*sigh* I guess I'm glad they "fixed" it. The TPMS has been one of the primary reasons I've been unhappy with my $40k car. It's a 2003 and I swapped out the wheels. From that point forward, the dealers have turned me away when I tried to get the sensors reset. Then one or two of them broke (but I've since) replaced them. Anyway, I'm angry at Nissan to go have them use their monopoly on a device that fixes the issue and give them money to wave the device at the wheels for 5 seconds. So, long story short (well not so short), the sensor light ! is always on and everytime I turn the car on it flips the dash computer to the TPMS which is what really ticks me off. The computer should stay where I have it (temp or fuel mileage whatever. Anyway, glad they fixed it in the later models. The 2003 models it's really stupid the way it works.
