Default New Tire Time -- opinions wanted

Time for new tires... Unfortunately, I'm broke... doesn't mean I can't still have a little fun.

My 03 base Z has had Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires on it since I've owned it (second owner). Tire size is 225/50-17, 235/50-17.

The plan originally was to buy new wheels and tires when the time came... but, again... broke! So just tires.

I'm determined to fit wider tires on my wheels (let me know if this is pointless) for improved grip. Aside from that... the cheaper, better value, tires don't come in my standard base wheel size (17x7.5 and 17x8). All the below tires fit given manufacturers specs. Listed below are the specs that I care about:

OPTION 1-
--Continental ExtremeContact DW 245/45-17 (25.7" diameter, 23lbs) and 255/45-17 (26" diameter, 25lbs). $614 for the set.

Option 2-
--Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 235/45-17 (25.4" diameter, 24lbs) and 245/45-17 (25.7" diameter, 26lbs). $456 for the set.

The car is my daily driver. I don't care about VDC and whatnot because I don't have it. I DO care about the brakes working. I was going to try and go with a square hankook setup initially until I read about some ABS malfunctions. I also care about the LOOK of the tires/car -- smaller tire worsening the wheel well look and whatnot.

I would look for a used set of wheels with tires.

So no love of the continentals even though they are wider tires?

I don't care about rain or snow.

@terrasmak -- I've browsed the fs section here and didn't find too much... Any advice on places to find a used set up?

the DW is outstanding, right up there with the michelin super sport
hankook is just a great budget tire
the DW is also excellent in the rain, i know you said you dont care but its worth mentioning. I ran the DW in 225/245-45-18 on my G35 and was in awe. When I upgraded my wheels from stock I couldnt afford the DW so I went with Nitto NT555 which is another great budget tire but they are nowhere near the DW

if you dont believe me check a different forum, for example the DW is very popular with the porsche and M3 crowd, post this thread on a performance car forum and they would be LOLing

take care

I pretty much agree with everything here... But no comments on tire sizes also? Keep in mind because of the base wheel size i can only do these in different sizes. So that would affect things too right? Or wrong?
