higher end coilovers for street choices
ok, i have been fighting off doing a thread on this but after literally about 15 hours over the last couple days searching and reading i am needing a little personal experience reviews about what may be best for me and my driving.
the high end of my budget allows for a set of ohlins, but wanting to just make sure this is a good choice.
about the car- it started as a 2005 g35. it is under going a full rebody that only uses the basic infiniti drivetrain and floor pan. i will be going straight into a tt ls swap with 6l90 6spd auto. weight balance may come out a tad front heavy with about the best i can get it is about 55% front when done and a finished weight around 3200. tires 275/30/20 and 325/25/20.
about my expectations and driving- i really do not plan to competitively drive the car. maybe some autocrossing, few track days here and there, but mostly street. yes, i know how to drive and used to be very competitive in autox so i do know the difference in **** parts and can drive them to the limit.
what i am trying to achieve- i do not want something so stiff i skip across bumps while on the street. i want something that will be very precise, but not super stiff. i can control body roll with the sway bars. i know in my price range there is lots of choices and if i can get away with something quality for less than the ohlins i am all ears. i am still waiting for delivery of the car but guess i will want to drop in the 2-2.5" range.
btw- air is not out of the question either. car will be low with a front splitter also and my driveway is a *****. so the ability to raise is a plus if others think that works for my requirements.
thanks for the replies. really looking for good insight on this.

IIRC KW 3 max drop is 1.5 all around. OP wants something 2" or lower. Correct me if I'm wrong but I notice the higher end coils doesn't go lower than 1.5", look into stance/bc racing coils if you're looking for 2+ inch drop but you're sacrificing quality, pick a poison.

in general, if you go to far you bring the shock out of it's sweat spot. that is probably the main reason. the camber/caster gain will be greater than the stock designed geometry or "start point" if lowered. i am not too concerned about going just a little lower, but yes, i would like a set up that ride height is adjusted via the mount, so the shock will be in it's designed range. i have also noticed that many of the coilover perches allow enough space to redrill holes higher up on the forks. i could get probably another 3/4" out of redrilling mounting holes higher.
again, this is a full rebody so i cannot gauge the amount i want to visually drop until having car in hand. it is radically different than a g35, lol.
when i had my tt 350z i had about a 3" drop on it with tanabe springs and stock shocks. bumpsteer was effected, but very little. geometry still felt good, camber and caster gain just happens faster but with a stiffer spring it limits it.

if i stayed with the g35 drivetrain, the car would come in at 2900lb wet with about a 62-65% front bias. by the time the ls and mid mounted turbos (they will be where the original rear seat footwell is) then some air/water intercoolers, it gives me alot of ballast to put water tank, battery and stereo amps in extreme rear to help the balance. so at the end of the day i should still be less than the stock g35.

Race Consulting Agency carried both Ohlins and KW , I don't think they are a forum sponsor and I don't think we have a vendor that carries both.
