What you're forgetting is the the 3 series is the best in its class already. Having it as a base is a lot better start than most cars suped up. You make it sound like the 3 series is some average econobox.

I was not comparing about best in class, but for the money how does it stand against a C6. That would be a terribly unfair comparison.
Econobox, M3 is definitely not. BMW is a luxury car company. Would I compare M3 to STI or RS4, yes. Are they all special, yes they are in their repsective category, does M3 stand out, may be, but Audi 4.2 V8 may be better for modding for 0-60 times. And when I am shopping for sports car, I am not shopping for a sport coupe, so we are going back in circles.

Besides that, they're almost the same.

Regarding whoever said that car companies were just adding HP to make a different line of cars... Uhh.. If you look at BMW's M division, they basically just take the same base and start from there. The new M5 is

And I just don't like the 330ci. I think the new C6 vette is decent at best. Very nice performance numbers, but I don't respect the need to use a 6.0L V8. I'd take a Carrera S 997 that can put down the same numbers with 3.8L. And put it down in style to boot.

Yeah, the 330CI doesn't do it for me like the M, although with the sport package, it's not too bad. I like the Vette, but I'd have to get a Z06 if I got one. Those are too expensive right now, though. Would have to get a used one.

Mustang or Camaro that don't handle worth **** compared to the Z with V-8s putting out around 300 HP or a 3.5 liter V6 putting out the same and with much better reliability, .

But watch for it. V8 and 400 hp, it promises to eat Audi RS4's and AMG C55's for breakfast.
