There is a diff to kids who get something bought for em, theres another to the kids who demend a new car (which I have seen before).

btw im 20, and my parents bought me a Z. I didnt even ask them for it and demanded tehy return it since i didnt think we could afford that. They got a good deal and they "claim" they didnt want me driving my 86 conquest to school. Dads a mechanic at our shop and didnt want it breaking down up here. I was goign to surprize my mom for mothers day by comming home cause she was sick. My dad picks me up and im walking around my dorm and im like wheres the quest? ( I was looking so forward to driving it since they didnt allow first years cars). And he tosses me a set of Nissan keys, so im like ok he really didnt test drive a car all teh way up here. We walk to the back and theres a ****ing 350z im like "**** how the hell are we going to pay for this" haha Soooo they got me one since they knew the Z was my fav. But in no way did i ask for it. My plans was to get out of college, work for a few years and mod my conquest, then buy a Z eventually. I always tell them they can sell it if they need to. My dad drives a 90 montero and my mom drives a used 98 bmw. So i woudlnt say we are dirt poor, but middle class. I tell you what tho, i really do appreciate my Z, and take very good care of it, just like i did my ol conquest (which still holds a special place in my heart...and a parking spot back home haha).

Just saying not every kid who has a nice car is spoiled and takes it for granted. I intend to return the favor to my dad and more once i graduate and get a real job. Dont look down on the people untill you know thier entire story. Btw I am at UVA and there are kids who have more rediculous things than a 26k car.

Actually eventho i put my opinion out, i still think the thread starter shouldnt complain. I wouldnt complain if i didnt get a car. Thats the kind of kid im talking about that i dont like. To those whose parents are not around, I do feel sympathy. My parents are both alive and well, but i would def give up my car and alot more for em easy.
I got my 350z when I was 16 (I'm now 20), I love my Z! Appreciate what you have, I brought my Z with insurance money after my dad was killed at work. I would much rather have my dad than my Z.

Well said.
Mad props to your parents, they obviously instilled certain values (respect & etiquette)that you would be hard pressed to find in other youth your age. Keep your nose to the grind stone and you will be able to repay your parents 10 fold.

Cheers,

Just remember this to all those younger people with expensive cars: Never cynicize people who have less than you or drive lesser cars. This is as superficial as insulting someone for being handicapped, or for being of a different race.

All it does is make you a jerk-off, and at the end of the day, no one around you will care what car you have. So you are a loser no matter how you cut it.

It's natural to compare ourselves to other people, but don't belittle someone over your personal opinions, especially if you didn't buy the car yourself.

One of the best posts I've seen on the forum. I usually end up arguing with others about this same exact point, because I am exactly in the same situation. Or was. I am 19 as of now, however.

Well thought out!

ummm for all those young kids that are "paying for their OWN Z". It's not really considered paying for your own Z if you're still living at home, not paying rent, parent's paying for insurance, having food on the table that is not paid for by "YOU". It's nice you're making the payment for the Z, but without the help of others, namely your parents you wouldn't be able to afford one.

my 2 cents

I decided that I wanted a Z more than any other car in my price range. I did my research on prices and options, the amount of miles certain year cars should be below, maintainence costs, etc.
I searched the internet for 3 months while saving some cash (I'm a waiter). I found the exact one I wanted in Florida for $19,500 used. I bought it, flew down and picked it up and drove it back.
My father co-signed with me since I have no credit (I don't own credit cards or have loans. I pay for college out of pocket.)

Dreams can be met. Work hard.

this is true in a sense... im 21 and still live at home and drive an 04 roadster touring... if i had my own apartment i would prob be driving something that costs less than 10 grand. but i work all day 6 days a week, and when i get home i change and go to my gf's till like 3 a.m. come home, sleep, then go to work again. i spend over $100 a week on breakfast and lunch alone so i just use my house as a place to sleep i guess lol...

i would like to move out but theres no sense since im never home anyways. once the z is paid off or till i trade it in for something cheaper home is where ill live.

I just wish more guys in your age bracket had the same mindset. I grew up knowing the only way I was going to acquire the nicer things in life was to do it on my own. I don't hold this against my parents one bit.

Frenzy757, well said. You definately sound like you've got your act together (but then you're a Cavalier so that's no surprise ).

My oldest son will be going to either UVA or Carolina next year. If he ends up at UVA, you guys will have to meet. He'll be bringing his Z too.

If you want a good football or basketball team, i wouldnt come here =O lol
Yea def tell him to look me up on facebook Ill be a fourth year next year and if he brings his Z, that would make 20 thousand here in Cville, but the 3rd student I know including me that has one. (the other is my frat bro who has a roadster posts here once in a while). The car club scene here sux but it is growing steadily, he and I still go to autoxs and scenic drives when time permits. Cant beat that instate tuition (not for you tho). I tell ya 12k a year is alot better than 35+ id pay elsewhere, but Virginia has awesome public universities.

i dont mean any disrespect to you or anyone else i just think your not being open minded about how things are now of days. yea a kid will tend to crash his first car or scrape it up but if you can afford to buy your kid something nice then you should be able to afford to repair it. and if they do crash atleast let it be in somehting new and safe compared to some old car with no airbags etc...

No offense dude, but your age tells the whole story for your post. you think that "Resolute" is a selfish disgruntled parent because he thinks it is ridiculous that a kids "dreams" are crushed because his parents didn't buy him a $30k car...lol...your name calling and accusations are what is so funny. The first thing I said to myself when reading your first paragraph was, "this kid can't be older than 20"...and low and behold, you are 21! lol

I'll tell you what…I am 26, married, have an awesome house and awesome job. Things, at the moment, look very bright for my future and yes, I will spoil my kid. At the same time, I will make sure that my kid appreciates all that he or she is given, but doesn't mean that my kid will get a brand new $30k car. I find that to be a little over the top.

You talk about needing a "safe" car with "airbags"...dude, last time I checked, you can get a nice 2002 Acura TL with airbags (very safe) for roughly 12k. Now, you tell me why a kid NEEDS to have a NEW $30k car to be safe???

All I am saying is that I personally don’t think that any 16, 17, or 18 year old kid needs to be driving a $30k car. When young, we all make mistakes and ruin things that as you get a little older you grow to appreciate and take better care of. Every time I read these threads, I am reminded of the mentality that I see in teenagers these days = a sense of entitlement!
