Default I am new and had a question....

I am getting ready to purchase a 03 350z tourin edition. The car looks great and has low miles (15k). Whats throwing me of is this stuff i hear about the transmision. How can i get away with it? Should i get a warranty on it? Have it checked? Is the 03 not worth purchasing? Please help with any advice. He is asking 22k for it. It has B&M short shifter, RSR exhaust system, Greddy body kit, premium wheels. Anything else wrong with 03s please share.

I think he transmission is the biggest problem. Everything else you can live with

Do you know if the transmission has been replaced yet? Warrantys are always good to have!

Wanna sell me your stock DVD unit if you get it

definatly get a warranty from nissan if you can, made the mistake with my mustang and i can't wait to get rid of the thing, warranties are a must with used cars in my opinion.

IMHO the '03 models remain a good buy. As for the transmission, did you test drive this particular Z? Was there any balkiness in shifting up or down through any of the gears? Usually Z tranny problems manifest themselves with a grinding of the gears either up or down. The Nissan powertrain warranty remains in effect for 5 years/60K, so it should cover the tranny (check with your local dealer to be sure). Finally I'd ask the owner if his tranny was ever replaced as well as well as review his service records on the car.

Default No i havent yet...

I am testing it tomorrow 9/30. Ill take a couple of friends with me to test it and then take it to my mechanic. Ill ask the guy if he replaced it or not but what are the chances he will tell me the truth? As far as figuiring out if he raced everything out of it how do i tell? And will the warranty on tranny still be effective with those mods mentioned in my first post at the top?

If you have any doubts about verifying warranty work, take the VIN to your friendly Nissan dealer and have the service department check out the car's history. As far as racing, if he's good at it, the wear will be minimal. If he's not, hopefully your mechanical inspection will show any problems.

Finally, the only thing of concern on your mods list for future tranny service will probably be the short shift kit. If you buy the car, make sure you get the OEM shifter with the sale. Then replace it before you take it in for tranny related service.

I am on my 3rd Tranny @ 31k Miles on my 03

If he had the tranny replaced I wouldn't necessarily say that's a bad thing becuase you will have a new transmission.

You should have about a year left on the Drivetrain warranty on the car depending on it's in service date. A 72 month extended warrany unfortunately will only add another year coverage on top of that. You could fiind a vendor other than Nissan for an extended warranty.

WHat Wheels are on the car?

22k Is a decent deal with the mods and lowish miles assuming the wheels are decent.

You do know you can get an 06 probably for another 4K.

The drive train warranty is 60 months/60,000 miles.

+1, I have an 03 with only 36000 miles, no problems yet. 15000 is extremely low miles for a 3 year old car. I say go for it.
