Default Dealer Rant!!!!

Not naming the dealer but tell me if I have reason to be a little peeved.

So I bought a 06 Base 2 months ago. I read on this board there may be oil consumption problems on the 06's so I monitored my oil. Sure enough, have had to put in 2 quarts in 2,200 miles.

So I call my dealer, he says bring it in for an oil consumption monitoring test. He asks me if how'd I liked my car.

I said I loved the car except for 3 things:

1) oil consumption 1 quart per 1,000 miles
2) Both front lights fog up after driving in the rain
3) Driver side window (if you flick the controler switch) will sometimes go all the way up, but then comes half way down.

His resolution was:

1) he's going to start the oil consumption test.
2) he doesn't see any fog in the lights, have to bring them back when they fog up (gee...your not going to see any fog in the front lights, because it's been sitting inside a building for two days, and currently there is only a very light drizzle outside....maybe park it outside in the rain for a few hours and monitor it.... )
3) he can't reproduce the windows going up and half way down, but knows it happens alot. Easily fixed with a little reprogramming. But I have to duplicate it in front of him first.

So basically no movement at all on fixing any known problems on my 06.

So far, the dealer is doing his job.

If/when the lights fog up in the future, take good pictures and show them to the dealer.

The vehicle problems are Nissan's fault, not the dealer.

Write/call Nissan and complain.

You can give Nissan a call, which I would recommend, but they pretty much just close the ticket and turn it back over to the dealer once they have discussed it with you. I would simply call them to have a track record of the problems you've had, especially the oil consumption problem.

These issues are Nissan's fault, but being a licensed dealer for Nissan makes them issues that the dealer must attempt to resolve in good faith. They will always be the same though. If you can't reproduce it, then they can't say it is broken. I hate it when they say that, but not much else you can do without concrete proof.

Also, if you are able to reproduce the window problem then I would make sure that you take the service manager for a long test drive until it happens.

At least thats what I would do.

Most MFG's will allow 1 quart per 1000 miles. I work in the motorcycle industry and it is even the same here.

you can always go to a different dealership, also if you feel that the dealer is doing you wrong you could post the name of the dealership to help out other members who have helped you with their postings.

Concentrate on the most serous problem: oil consumption. The others are trivial in comparison.

As a former dealership auto technician there is really nothing they can do unless you can repeat the problem in front of them, as far as the fog lights and window switch go. But the oil consumption problem can surely be taken care of.

That certainly would be a good reason to contact Nissan Consumer Affairs! Hope you got someone you can trust now.

That is scary. I find that way too high. That means that in 1000 miles you are at the L. All I was told is that there is a certain acceptable loss, but not told what it was. I would find it hard to believe that you would find 1 qt in 3000 miles acceptable. We'll see what they say.

No doubt. What if a person were unaware of the consumption issue and have been going 3K or over between oil changes??? Damn scary.
What a crock of ****.
I find it very hard to believe a quart every 1K is acceptable.
I wish the OP and all with the oil consumption issue good luck.

I dont buy any of that bs about a certain amount of oil consumption being normal. Maybe 1/4-1/2 quart every 3k miles, but 1 quart every 1k miles???? Im getting my consumtion test done, and theres no way Im taking "its normal" as an answer.

Certainly no argument here. Of course, they have also tried to say it depends on how you drive it. That is probably more true than some of what they say. If I had it at the track all the time, I could understand. But I drive 20 miles one way on all highway to work everyday. It does not get any easier than that on a car. Never to the track and no mods (at least until I get this figured out).

Be very careful with Nissan and your dealer. My Z has the consumption issues, almost exactly the same amount as your car. After giving me the runaround Nissan NA said "look in the manual, some consumption is normal". When it increased to 1quart per 500 miles a little later they said "well, maybe we can take the engine apart and replace some rings". I would get the problem nipped in the bud.
Make sure they document everything.

Thanks for the info. I've been very diligent keeping track of the documentation. When you had the consumption, were you using syn or dino?

It is also interesting that they do not quantify what they consider "some consumption".

That's what I get for posting on this forum while I'm at work...

Yep typo....front factory lights fog up.

Update: When I picked up the car, I got in and the windows were doing that same thing of rolling up then going down half ways. I quickly got a tech and was able to reproduce the problem. He said they'll fix it, but I didn't have time to drop the car off again...So told him when I bring the car in next time, they can fix it then.

As for the fogging up of the front lights, he said that was normal and it wasn't the inside of the lights that were fogging up. Said it was something about a film that develops over the lights and gives it that impression. I'm going to have to check it next time it happens.

^gotcha.

My lights have a "dewy" like substance on them some mornings. But this is also on pretty much the entire car. Just those damp, cool mornings.

As long as its on the outside, there isnt anything to worry about.
