A rollover at 20MPH is certain plausible, if the rear tires break loose on gravel, you get sideways and the tires hit a curb or dig into soft dirt. Still, on a clear day, dry road, single vehicle - it seems likely it was the driver's own fault. I'd hope the OP sucks it up, owns up and learns the lesson. Belittling the driver doesm't serve anything - but I'm the noob so I'm not going to get involved with pointing fingers on behavior at the moment.

There is some interesting info on Event Data Recorders at http://www.harristechnical.com/cdr.htm

Based on his picture, I'd guess the rollover was caused by the slope of the ground to the side he went off. As for rolling a car at 20mph, I seriously doubt it, especially one with a low center of gravity like the Z. As an autocrosser, I have a hard time believing that he lost control at 20mph unless he hit ice or something else that would remove all traction.

First time I have seen the underside of a 2007. Just about the entire belly is covered with plastic.

No such thing?????? A single vehicle accident consists of a vehicle into a fixed object other than a second vehicle, but it is still classified as a "single vehicle" accident. If it didn't hit a fixed object there would be no damage and therefore no accident to report. There most certainly are single vehicle accidents though.

To the OP, sorry about your luck and I won't even second guess your speed or how the accident happened because it will do no good. With that said, I highly doubt the Trooper just decided to pick on you after you flipped your car. Chances are you got out of the car pretty agitated and maybe said a few things that you decided not to write in your post (since they don't help your story of how you were completely innocent and did nothing wrong, but all these bad things just slapped you all at once for no apparant reason). Hope you take away a few lessons from this accident but I'm not holding my breath.

Did your car flip as cool as the Aston Martin in Casino Royale did?

When I was 17 I witnessed a 1990's Hyundai Accent flip going around 30 I'd estimate. It hit wet leaves in a turn, he over-corrected and ran off the shoulder and the car suddenly became airborne and flipped, landing its side. Never seen anything like it since though, and I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of accidents. A Z would not have had the same result in that instance though unless it hit a fixed object almost completely sideways.

Kinda crazy to be analyzing degree of fault here based on the information given. No doubt error was made to go off the road, but the flipping part could have been due to terrain once off the road. It wasn't a flat paved track.

That bank is steep enough that an upright car would be seriously tilting before the upside wheels left the ground. Soil on the passenger side tires shows that it was soft enough to not offer much lateral traction and they could have dug down in. 20 mph lateral force at the angle is a lot.

But we're still just picking noses deducing from a couple bad still photos and a couple statements. Some people are going to feel owned IF it turns out to be a freak thing after he lost control at a slower speed.

I don't see what the problem is... you get the money back to buy another one so what's the big deal with totalling a car?

what dug that several foot long fresh trench behind the Z? Did the 20mph Z dig that trench?
I guess it's possible

u think insurance gonna total out your car? I'm still waiting to see if the insurance company will total out my car (actually, my car was sold to someone else, and he wrecked it, so it'll be HIS car and HIS insurance company)...but I do hope they'll total out, what do y'all think:

(sorry guys...just a little humor...guy's recuperating in the hospital, he's getting better so I thought maybe now i can throw out a little joke...)

Glad everyone is ok.

Looking at the minute amount of damage to the car, considering a rollover, I'd say I have to believe the guy about his speed. Seriously, there is very little damage to the car(visibly). I'm guessing he got on the back side of a grade, freaked, and jerked the wheel into the slope(against the grade), dug the fronts into the dirt, flip; instead of driving down the slope(with the grade), braking and waiting for a tow truck to get him out. How he actually ended up off the roadway in the first place, we'll prob never know?

You'll be seriously lucky if the car is totalled out.

I read that too. But realize though, that's based as a deaths per units sold. So obvioulsy a Z which is a high end, low sales numbers car is gonna appear more dangerous. As compared to a compact Kia which will vaporize on contact, killing everyone, but since they sell tens of thousands each year, the percentage of deaths seems lower.

Thanks for being an other statistic.

When you get a new car, do not drive it without first visiting www.scca.com and finding yourself a local sector, and LEARN HOW TO DRIVE.

Also, slap the crap out of your parents for letting you drive, and own a car like this.

To any noob signing on this site that's under 20: You have coming to you exactly what you deserve. Don't get all butt hurt.

1. It PROVES to you that you are an idiot.
2. It screws your insurance rates.
