i think the z could be riced out if it's in the wrong hands (not referring to only to youngers). i mean seriously, some of the people here think teenagers cant drive for crap and since the z is in their price range, they will riced the z out.

When I put a ZC motor in it in '97, the clutch was damn near $400 and the DC header was around $250-$300. I cost me $550 for a custom 2 1/4" exhaust because I don't remember anyone making an exhaust for a CRX at the time... Sound familiar?
My point is, it wasn't until the import "Boom" happened that young kids started buying up Honda's which caused shops and distributors to pop up out of the wood work. Which caused more parts to be available at a lower price.
Hell, I don't remember anyone buying anything on-line back then.
When these older folks get bored with their Z, younger middle class kids(17-21) will be picking them up instead of Mustangs, Camaros and late model BMW's.
How much do you think a used Greddy TT kit with rebuilt turbo's is going to cost 3 years from now?
One thing I know for sure, the 350Z speed shops owners are going to have fat pockets 5 years from now!

The Z should have never been priced so low. This also would have helped keep resale values at a maximum and dealer discounts to a minimum (I'm thinking BMW here). If this car was produced by a German auto company, it would be an $80k car. RWD, drop-dead sexy lines, 2 seater, 300+hp... Can you imagine what this car would cost if it had a BMW logo on it? Oh, like the Z4-coupe...$60k+!
Z sales are down (almost half if IIRC) since it's introduction. The increase in Z's/ownership on forums like this is due to the original OP issue-more affordable Z's coming on the market. The fact that 18-22 year olds are snatching them up isn't a surprise. If I was half my age and had $18k to spend, the Z would be the only serious consideration. But modification is an entirely other subject.
The fact that sooo many people modify the Z to begin with doesn't exactly help the issue. On the contrary, I think it truly diminshes the value of this car in general. It's obviously an enthusiasts car, but so is the M3 (I'm just using an example), and I'm hard pressed to see as many modified M3's on the road as I see "riced" Z's.
It's inevitable though, the older a car gets, the more affordable it becomes, and it will eventually appeal to a younger crowd.
We're doomed.

Z's will not be riced out
First of all, Honda's have so many aftermarket parts that they are cheap and available to the masses. The 350z has no were near the after market parts. Also the 350z parts are very expensive to the average Honda ricer customer.
Not going to happen. At least not for the average income group that has the income to support a rice car.
Boils down to this:
Not enough 350z production to justify the aftermarket parts being manufactured for so few 350z's in comparison to the mass produce Honda's It's supply and demand economics. Not enough supply equals not enough demand.
Just my .02 worth.

i just hate to see a Z get modded like a honda **** pisses me off for example ugly *** front bumpers or ricer lighting. the farthest i would go with cosmetics is drop, rims and nismo front bumper. i wouldnt even smoke my tail lights. i love the way the car looks from the factory. although i was thinking about black headlight... looked kinda nice. its just alot of troulble when trading the car in.
hell i have an acura integra and it looks all stock on the outside except for drag radial tires hehe.
but i do agree this car will be more obtainable to lower income people and thats where the ricing begins these people cant afford quality parts especially paying like $400+ car notes.

i disagree. I've only seen 1 or 2 riced out z's and I see a lot of z's down here in florida..most are stock and driven by all age groups but around here..sarasota.. alot of mid-life-crisis convertible z's.

I see the Z becoming the new Honda civic of the 21st century. Expect to see more riced out Z's in the near future.

5 more years, then I can see it.
But for right now, Nope.
I am happy that the camero is coming back, this should make people go get that POS. I love my Z. But there is alot of new cars coming into the market, and people have more choices now, like that Saturn SKY RED LINE. My local Nissan has had 4 2007 350z sitting in there lot now for about 2 months. They are not selling. Plus think about all the 95 to 2002 models like eclipses, trans ams, etc.

I feel like this is Y2K on the my350z forum. This is nothing new though. The Z isn't the first "more upscale" car that has depreciated in value. Look around. The S2k was brought up earlier, and I do not see them riced out. How about the 3000GT VR4's? Someone said earlier that they see 300ZX's riced out?
Here is my point of view. On my drive to the gym and fill up with gas today, I saw about 25 Civic/Intergra/"fast sounding" Honda speed racers, and 0 of any of the other cars I mentioned. Lets compare production numbers for these riced out Civics compared to our Z. There is honestly no comparison.
My verdict is that the Z will never been categorized as a Ricer vehicle. Lets be positive people!
I don't like gloom & doom posts about the Z. Makes me not sleep good at night.

I know here in MN, I can drive around in the summer months for for weeks and not see any Zs. You can forget about it in the winter. Thats the main reason I bought one. I love the way it looks and love the fact that around here you rarely see them. Ahhhh sometimes it pays to live in the midwest. Only had the car a couple of weeks and have had at least 3 or 4 people ask me what kind of car it is.
I have seen dumb *** kids almost crash their cars trying to get a better look at the best car ever made under 40K. At lease in my opinion.
