Which begs the question, can the OP even afford the new Mustang V6? His Z isn't even worth half of the Mustang.
A better title for this thread would have been:
Now that the New V6 Mustang beats my old *** Z (yet can't beat the comparable year Z)

Call me crazy, but I didn't buy my 370 to be a "cost effective tuner car". I consider it a sports car. To give the Mustang its props, it is a good car with a lot of history. But, if I wanted a Mustang, I would have bought it.
Comparing cars with 5 years difference between them is pretty ridiculous, don't you think?
Hey. My 370 blows the doors off of a 1980 Ferrari. So?
Car guys appreciate cars because they're cars, not because they'll go .1 sec faster than somebody elses.

lol at the OP. he's a little slow... he's comparing a 2011 mustang with a 2003 350z, that a 7 year difference!!! I don't care if the mustang came with 400hp, i'll never give up my 03 Z. The Z makes up for being that much better looking, and fact that I never have to say i own a "Mustang" when someone asks me, makes up for it hahaha.

I'm well aware. However Mustangs are simply retarded cheap to go fast, the Z responds poorly to N/A mods, has a cramped engine bay that is not -diy turbo- friendly and a god damn ring&pinion set costs over $500 (compared to a $90 Mustang set).
05 Mustang received the 3v, I believe that car is faster then a the DE engines, only a HR would give him a run for his money, stock-for-stock.

MUSTANG GT from 2005
Year: 2005
Make: Ford
Model: Mustang GT
Base Price: $24,455 est
Origin: Detroit, Michigan
Top Speed: 150 MPH / 241.4 KPH
¼ mile: 13.9 Seconds
Lat. Acceleration: 0.85 G
0 - 60 MPH: 5.3 Seconds
Gas Mileage: City: 18 MPG / Hwy: 24 MPG
NISSAN 350Z from 2003
0 - 60 mph [sec.]: 5.4
0 - 100 mph [sec.]: 13.6
Quarter Mile [sec.]: 14.0
Top Speed [mph]: 156
Braking 60 - 0 [ft.]: 115
Down to the driver in this case, so no an HR motor is not needed to give an 05 GT a run for its money, an old stock DE will be sufficient. So the 2003 350z equals a GT that came out two years later.
That said my 97 Cobra is faster than the Z and equals the 05 GT in the quarter, beating the 05 GTs skid pad figure. BTW I know how the Mustangs/Cobras can respond to some simple bolt-ons.
cceleration, 0-60 mph 5.9 seconds
Quarter-mile 13.99 seconds @ 101.6 mph
Top Speed 152 mph
Braking, 60-0 127 ft.
Skidpad, 100 ft. 0.89g
Slalom, 80 ft. 52.1 mph
I am not a fanboy for either side, both Z and Mustangs/Cobras have their upsides/downsides like any car.

Anyways. Just like when buying computer hardware, the specs that were amazing and top of the line when you bought it will be outdated in a couple years. Now from our 2005 350Z (six years later), I would buy the 2011 Mustang without even thinking twice. Six years ago from 2005, I would have bought a 1999 Corvette C5. So?

Agreed that comparing two cars so many years apart is invalid.
However I also agree that early years 350z performance was pretty d**khole, I mean for a car that was at the time Nissans flagship performance car, it's performance orientated styling, they hype building of "the return of the z car" and constant marketing of how good and flexible thier engine based on decade long (at that time) awards... to then run what... 14.5 1/4miles
I'm not saying it was terrible but it definatly wasn't something to brag about, and they never did. When they marketed the 350z (here anyway) it was always regarding what the VQ35DE was and it's history.. never how it was performing under the bonnet of the 350z, I'll say I was dissapointed, however the car evolved nicely and I'm happy with my HR and love her to bits

Some people are just dumb. If you use all 400 hp will you get that mpg? Who cares if it's faster for a year or two. How about the other 40 Nissan's been cracking the whip on em?

Either way, I'm glade that Ford has made major improvements to the Mustang.
The 2011 Mustang GT is a serious contender. We can debate which car is better and why all day, but the bottom line is that increased competition helps us all. It brings down prices and offers us more choices.
I'd have to say that the 370z is a bit more expensive than most people would have wanted.
I would not mind either a 2010 370z or a 2011 Mustang GT. Both are impressive in their own regards.

Oh man, Well i love my Z, my dad collected classic mustangs and I also have a 71 mach1... And i must say, the 370z wont have **** on the new GT/5.0... And yes, with a slight weight loss, dont expect a 07HR to pull that much on the new v6 mustang...
I can pull on the 300hp GT, and even some that were modded, but at 305 and a tad lighter... Id prob have to mod.
Even so, at near equal price to the 370 z, you get nearing 100hp same fuel eco and a backseat from the new GT/5.0
I did think they would use the new ecoboost as a v6 option to the mustang and maybe try for 450hp for the new 5.0
Then you would have a nice line up - 305hp v6 (cheap) - 350hp+/- v6 option (easy mods) and 450hp 5.0 v8 (american muscle)
I will be buying the new GT, and prob keep my sentra and X the z. IM getting married talking about having a kid, the mustang is just more practical... well a GTR would be far better pick but....
I am actually happy that Ford is bringing the 5.0 back. I think they got a tad bit mad that chevy delivered a 300hp v6 camaro and a 412hp v8. They answered. NOW are Jap cars going to catch up? Or sit this one out?

Where’s the 500-550hp GTR and the TT Z option? Come on NISSAN, I love ya, but you have to keep up! I think a 400 hp Z would actually be a great contender against the c6vette, new camaro ss and the 5.0GT. 400 hp in a 370z shell would be great!
Nissan can’t release a near 400hp rwd car when it has the GTR at only 435hp...
It would be like BMW making the 1series M too close of a match to the M6, people would tend to buy the smaller faster CHEAPER car. There would be some who still went to the M6, but you get to a point where you compete for a sale against your own cars, not good.
So when the GTR moves up (God knows its badass already) we will see a Z that can put a hurting on its v8 competition, like we have in the past few Z years. The key imho is a Z that can hands down give a same model year vette a run for its money.
All hail the HP wars.... its great!
PS who created an account saying he had a 6xxHP Z! LOL, Why would you do that! You know someone is going to call you out!
