2002 Dodge Dakota R/T (16)
2004 350Z (18)

when a car is only worth 10k is it that big of a deal? My R/T had more hp than my 350 does and the 350 is much safer to drive

My $1900 1995 Volkswagen Jetta 5spd 4 banger beater adventure:
2007: I just turned 16 and I love driving. I'm so cool!
2008: I'm gonna drive this like a sports car because I want it to be a sports car.
2009: Not my first pick for a senior prom ride...
2010: This thing is still running?
2011: This car is slower than all of my friends' cars. I hate it!
2012: Save money, save money, save money...Bye bye Jetta, you were an amazing first car and got my bang for my buck, won't be driving like a teenager in my next car.

Bought self 2003 Nissan 350Z 6MT Track Edition. Happiness earned.

I think the adults here are a little sore that teens drive the same car they do and the teens are upset about the fact that they aren't getting an invite into the big boy club just yet.

Who really cares what people spend their money on. It isn't about "they make us look bad" because teens drive all sorts of expensive cars...crash them and make themselves look bad. What the teens ARE doing is devaluing your accomplishment of owning a Z by owning a Z themselves long before you could. And it really isn't about the car they are driving, it is about pride. It is about working your whole life, purchasing a car (whether it be a Z or a Gallardo) and then pulling up next to a 16 year old driving the exact same car. It is emasculating and it doesn't take a psychology degree to see this in the "adult" reactions here.

Frankly I couldn't give less of a crap what my neighbor buys his daughter or when I see a teen driving an expensive car. Some 19 year olds in the Air force are well into their advance flight training, 20-21 year olds are flying in exercises....18 year olds are shooting assault rifles off at insurgents.. It is hardly an incapable age bracket.

16 - 1999 Mazda Protege
17-18 - 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant
19-20 - Bought my very own 2003 350z!

Not really sure what the hoopla about 17 year old getting Z's is. I'm new to the forums and realized that this post has more than anything else. :/ I can see why some people are upset because their parents bought them the car (I bought mine myself) but does it really matter..Hoping to have a good time sprucing up my Z!

The newer folks here have missed all the lulz from the posts where a 16 year old kid bought a brand new 350Z with all the money he saved from working so hard their entire life, and then rub that in with the claim that they "had no help from my parents" while failing to realize that those parents paid for everything else including the TP they use to wipe their azz. And we usually didn't believe those kids even paid for the car themselves to begin with - they would always trip themselves up in their bragging. Those are the posts that have kept this thread going for 10 years - the replies from us "more experienced" members, for many of whom the 350 was their first brand new car, or at least first brand new sports car and was finally affordable even with paying for our own and our families existence. We really don't give a rats azz how old you are to begin with, so leave it out of the post to begin with, especially now that the car is 10 years old and you can buy one used for less than $10,000. Lots changes in the 10 years since a new sports car is introduced. And oh yeah - their street racing and drifting stories didn't help much either, lol.

If I had a 350z when I was 17 it would've been wrecked for sure. I was fearless and stupid at that age. At least I'm willing to admit that.

The fact that you think a pickup truck with the same horsepower or a little bit more is less safe to drive than a sports car that weighs a ton less with the same amount of power is mistake number one. Below quote in bold is reason why. and all you did was prove a really beat to death point.

Nothing wrong with them having a 350z. There are some responsible drivers. The ones who crash help to maintain an inventory of available used parts and help to raise the value of meticulous maintained 350z in the future.

I feel the same exact way but I'm only 19 but I look 17. I also worked for my Z and people at gas stations sometimes just give me a look that mommy and daddy bought my car for me but that wasn't the case. It sucks but oh well if people are really that curious they can just ask.

I've had my Z since I was 15. Dad bought it for me a month before my 16th birthday as a present. Once i finished driving school and got my license I wasn't allowed to drive it for about 4-5 months on my own until he believed I was ready to handle it myself which I think was smart of him. Being a only child and keeping out of trouble doing good in school landed me a very nice first car. Always took care of it and never got any dings on it. I got in a little fender bender with a drunk driver who also tried to run when I was parked but that's a different story. My Z runs and looks as well as it did 8 years ago when we first got it. The only young Z drivers that should get bashed are the ones who are being reckless and don't appreciate what they have. Some of the comments on this thread are ridiculous about young drivers you just can't hate on all of them. I plan on being that old guy still driving his first car he had from high school. In 2 years the Z will become a garage queen/weekend driver when I treat myself to a gtr as a little graduation present to myself after a few months of work
