Intake Question
Howdy,
I've seen multiple threads on which intake I should go with and such, this is not a thread like that.
The intake below I've selected tucks behind the bumper and I've seen a few good reviews from it, I currently have the short CAI and I've been told it's really not gaining me anything. I'm changing it out because it's old and falling apart too.
My question is, Will I need a tune once I get this or not? I took my car to a shop to do an inspection of everything and they told me I'm running lean, would running this make me run lean even more or would I be alright?

You can buy a little cover that can somewhat help, 'hydroshield' but still would be cautious. Avoid heavy puddles and don't park in one. Make sure that the bottom of the car isn't exposed so much that you get more water than air. In my Celica, no shield and running in Virginia (more rain days), the car would struggle to run. After putting a shield, it helped but I still avoided puddles.
As for the tune, I would tune the Z after you have a good amount of upgrades.
Not sure why it would be running lean, could be the spark plugs, or the MAF. At least that's my experience with a Toyota Celica. Helps if you get the codes and maybe you can pin point it easier.

What's wrong with the OEM intake? Straight shot to the plenum, build of composite materials that don't heat up and a very clever cartridge design for the filter that keeps it away from sucking up water. Besides that, other CAIs don't offer much (if any) gains by themselves.

If my car came with the stock intake box, yeah, I'da probably changed it out just BECAUSE. But not gonna change it back. Have had a JWT Popcharger on it for 8 years with no issues.... but no real gains (that I'm aware of) either. Dyno doesn't lie. (Exaggerates, yes, but lie, no. )
