Default Gear Grind 2006 350z

I am getting a 5th gear grind and was wondering if anyone else had this issue. It grinds into 5th when i shift into it when driving normally and also when im at a red light not moving and put the car into 5th. I'm thinking it is a syncro but thought i'd ask on here before jumping to that conclusion. Pretty sure i have the CD009 transmission which I've heard is a good transmission.

When did you last change the tranny fluid? What brand and type did you use?

Do you know if the car has its original transmission, or if the transmission was replaced.

This may be just normal syncro wear at 145K. But I'd suggest changing the tranny fluid to Redline MT85 which is a GL-4 synthetic lubricant engineered with enough friction to allow proper syncro work. Cheap and easy if it works- just my $0.02.

Let us know the results- there's been some mixed opinions on Redline MT85, but it meets Nissan viscosity specs. I use it in both my race and street Zs with good success.

If your 2006 has its original transmission, then it is the improved CD009 transmission. This transmission had an improved synchromesh. Earlier transmissions (CD000, CD003, CD005, and CD008) were known for premature synchromesh failures. I had an early transmission model in my 2003 350z, and it was replaced with a CD009 at about 40k miles due to synchromesh noise. That transmission lasted until around 145k miles when the synchromesh began failing again. I would certainly try what dkmura suggests before giving u on the transmission.

Yep, that's syncro wear. Try using MT85- it seems to free up sticky syncros in some cases, but I suspect you'll still need to watch your shifts.

i added the fluid today... and it seems to have fixed my issue. i was shifting into 5th normally and it didn't grind. it is also about 55 farnhient outside so that may also be a factor that helps. anyway thank you for the help much appreciated
