Road and Track next gen Z article
2008 Z a Complete Redesign
I wouldn't read too much in to it, but in this months Road and Track, there is a long article on the 2007 Nismo 350Z. In this article it states that Nissan is going to have a completely new, redesigned “Z Car” for the 2008 Model Year.
Interestingly, they did not specifically call it a 350Z, but simply by the Z moniker, so it may actually be the 370Z we are all wanting…

Yea, well, don't read too much into that. I work for Nissan and they had told me that the Skyline GTR was going to be a 2007 model year vehicle. So much for that.
I don't think it's possible in this day an age for an auto maker to be coming out with a car in less than years time and not have one 'spy' shot, or some concept vehicle design launch. All that hype before a car comes out is done on purpose for many reasons.
I wouldn't expect a completely new Z to come out before 2009 model year.

The Weight reduction would have to come from more expensive materials, more aluminum and probably some carbon fiber too. Weight reduction isn't cheap for a mass-produced vehicle that must meet so many safety requirements. The other option is to cut back on features like a spare tire, stereo, AC, ABS, LSD, ETC... If they had a real "Track" Edition with just the Bare car, it would probably sell like hot-cakes.

typically when do we hear what is going to be in the next years models?
I hope to be in a position to buy mid-late summer (or earlier if car fever hits me much worse than it is now)
I could wait (assuming my beater doesn't die) if there were going to be some major changes in the next years cars.

Considering every single time there has been a change to either the Z or the G, it has resulted in pretty drastic weight increases, Nissan clearly isn't concerned with keeping weight down
There really is no excuse, IMHO, for a two-seat sports car to weigh 3350# (which, BTW, is what the much larger, V8 Mustang GT weighs). Heck, the roadster shouldn't even weigh that much.
