Hope you got this in writing from the service manager. Otherwise, the chances of you getting free labor are pretty close to zero. You'll likely get the same "huh?" reply once again.

The rear seam never split or stretched the stitching, but the front of the top split on both the driver and passenger side at the first fold-point.
My dealer okayed it right away, had a replacement in three days and sub-contracted it out. I delivered it to the subcontracting upholstery shop, the dealer had their courtesy shuttle driver deliver the new top, and I had my car back same-day.
The Nissan techs don't like to do the warranty install because it pays 5 hours and can take a lot longer.(according to a senior tech)

Haven't been here for a while...
What is the situation with the 2007 models, has Nissan solved this problem on new models?

Default Can it be stitched?

Pics attached. It's hard to see in these pics, but the separation is at the seam and the holes do go straight through to "daylight" inside the cockpit. It appears that whatever seam adhesive that may have been there in manufacturing let go, and the stitching just stretched after multiple top cycles until the seam holes elongated into gaps.

Hope this helps - let me know if if you need any more pics to make your case before I have mine fixed.
I have the exact same problem. Mine is 4 months out of warranty? Can this be re-stitched, maybe with a curved needle, fishing line, etc?

Default Top repair/replacement

3fiftyzva-
the ideal solution would be for you to find a service advisor that's willing to go to bat for you and convince Nissan N.A. to replace your top, even if it is just beyond the warranty period. It's not like they don't know they have a problem with these. My service guy didn't bat an eyelash about ordering the new top. The receipt just says "no charge", but the cashier told me the top was in the computer for $1,300 and the third party installation was billed for $500. It's definitely worth pursuing with Nissan. Just my .02

Luck,
Bruce
